First of all, heating up my appartment as much as possible. I always have about 22 - 23°C at home. Long underwear in winter is a must, angora is expesive but pays off - i save the money in summertime when i wear no underwear at all ;D Hot food like you said is great, chilli or other spices help as well. Try ginger tea, thats also great, or red wine gets your blood circulation running. Hard liquer is contraproductive as far as i know. But the ultimative tip is look for someone that keeps you warm in bed during the cold winter nights

WARNING! Hot water bottles can gice you serious burnings when you place them where you have no sensation or feelings. I know a certain case where a paralized girl woke up with nearly black toes because she used one. If i take a water bottle i only put it in my neck, where i can feel it when its to hot.

You are right and I should have put a disclaimer. I was suggesting to use the hot water bottle to warm the bed in advance. Nobody should actually sleep with a hot water bottle or heating pad on.

Well the other day when we were the second coldest place on EARTH! I just zipped up my jacket the whole way and spent the very least amount of time outside as possible.
But I sit with a blanket over my lap. Umm Soups?

Is it any better, warmth wise, than traditional long underwear? I've been hesitant to pay $50 for a under shirt.

I use a small heating pad at the bottom of the bed, under the covers where my feet are going to be. I turn it on about 30 mins before going to bed, then remove it just before getting in bed. My feet take a really long time to warm up, so it feels great to have that area of the bed already pre-warmed.
