So I have a question…
I have taken a long hiatus from writing dev fiction for a number of reasons, but I recently got an idea that has inspired me, and I’ve nearly finished writing it. However, the hero in this story is much more physically impaired than in a lot of my other stories. He has spastic quad CP.
I’ve been debating what to do with this story. Really, I’m writing it for me, for fun. But whenever I write something, I feel the urge to share it. But I genuinely wonder if other people will find this story as sexy as I do, and if I should cut some of the daily life minutia that I of course wrote in painstaking detail. (Like, do I really need two pages of the guy’s mom dressing him?) What do you think??
Also, if you feel uncomfortable sharing here, feel free to PM me!

I suppose it depends on how compelling the character is. Plus there’s a pretty wide spectrum of ability within spastic quad CP, too. You’ve got the Zach Anner “very extroverted, not terribly hard to understand, can probably provide a bit of assistance getting in and out of things/caring for himself” kind, the “Lobster With a Straw” “guy who travels with an aide who is the only person who can generally understand him and needs assistance with nearly everything, and/but is a super genius” kind, the plain old “I had a ‘normal’ life in the burbs and still live with my parents because I can’t get a job or a partner but am otherwise a regular geek who likes Marvel movies or whatever” kind… 🤷🏻♀️
Any of those types of characters could have interesting conversations with a caregiver/parent caregiver.
You could even do a special, um, More Detailed *cough* edition for your super fans IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
Do what you want. I’ve read tons of stuff — of yours, even! — where I didn’t think I’d be interested in the character or plot, but it was interesting, so it worked. And I *know* you have the interesting part down 😁
What will make this character unique *aside* from the disability stuff?

Well, the plot of the story itself is actually kind of wild. I’m not even going to get into that, but it’s nothing I’ve seen before on here and definitely not run of the mill. Kind of science fiction twist.
I looked at some videos of Zach Anner, and I’d say my character is a cross between that and the Lobster guy. He can talk in a way people can understand, which was important to me because writing dialogue is my favorite thing.

Please do share your new story, even if it is a bit different than your usual stuff. I would certainly be interested in reading it.

As an avid reader of all your books I would def give it a read! Some of your stories that aren’t even my usual attraction really really really piqued my interests.

@lilyinblossom I feel the same way. I love the contrast you mentioned. It’s sometimes hard to know if you’ve gone overboard with the details of daily life, but it’s also a very plot and romance heavy story, so hopefully it won’t get too bogged down.

Yes to those two pages! Make it five! I am 100% on board for the daily minutiae.

Love all the minutiae if it’s for us. Love everything you write.

I've been missing you and your writing, so I'm super excited about the new story and I would really like to read it! In terms of minutiae, you are the author (the queen of your universe) and it is up to you to decide what to include in the book. If the book is engaging with interesting characters and an intriguing plot, a reader can always skip the details which she does not care too much about. I totally trust your judgement and start waiting for the first chapter!

I never thought I'd like a CP story until I read what Lovis writes. Now I'm totally down for 2 (or more!) pages of getting dressed, LOL.

Would love to read a CP story! I'm a huge CP dev (and Annabelle fiction fan :)). I have read Lobster with a straw by Lovis more times than I'd be comfortable to admit, so I'd be very happy about a new CP story ;-). I would also love to read about the getting dressed and other every day stuff in detail.

I'd read this! The daily minutiae is especially compelling, I think. I hope you end up posting it!
