I enjoyed watching the coverage on CNN, and yes, I had a couple of tears in my eyes. It felt like a few minutes of hope in a chaotic world, but because I'm a "glass half empty" person lately, the hope was fleeting. It does bring to mind though how we are really such a tiny spec in this vast universe and a little bit, I kinda hoped for some people to get sucked off into the great beyond. On that note, did anyone see the airplane in one of the cameras? I took a picture of it on the TV.

I've always been the optimistic sort, but I'm getting more comfortable with pessimism in moderation for myself as well. We were very fortunate to be in the path of totality. Honestly, removing my glasses during those precious few moments was an indescribable experience.

I wasn't anywhere near totality either, so only able to see it on CNN as well.

Totality was pretty amazing. Being able to stare directly at the sun and admire the corona was an experience I'll definitely treasure!

It was like a moving concert experience - gave me the realization we're all insignificant but connected in that insignificance. Maybe I'm too philosophical on it though

Excellent photo, highhands89! I was lucky enough to drive down to Indianapolis with some friends to see totality. I tried to capture it with my phone but the pictures look nothing like real life. Fortunately CNN and some other sites do better at capturing the brilliant light of the Corona and the contrasts with the moon blocking the sun.

I truly wish everyone could have experienced totality.

Though I didn't actually see the total solar eclipse, I saw its live coverage on NBC News on YouTube, as it traversed along its predicted path. It was quite a sight to witness.
Solar eclipses are not new of course, given how they have been observed by humankind with awe and fascination for centuries, and have had tremendous impact on philosophy, science, art, culture, and so much more. That said, such astronomical phenomena, like solar eclipses, make us realize how miniscule we humans really are when compared with the vast ever-expanding Universe and Mother Nature itself.

I'm also amazed at how they know exactly when and where they'll happen, decades into the future! (I know, science, but still...)

Unfortunately, I didn't get to see it in totality. Instead, it was around 70% where I am, which was still super cool to witness. I agree with you that events such as these momentarily shatter divides and unite people with a common focus. However fleeting and difficult to maintain, it's a reminder that such unity is possible.

Only about 93 percent where I am but still pretty amazing! The slight drop of the temperature was nice too
