in fact, the annual neighborhood block party where i met tony 3 yrs ago was yesterday. t and i were both there. we kept trying to suss out which of all the chix there were devotees. finally we decided that the ones who COMPLETELY IGNORED US must be the devs...we figured we just made them too flustered to even look our way. man, there were A LOT of devs at that party!

Aside from the fact that the odds are that there were no devs at that party... (I think you realize that) ... assuming that there WERE, you may be entirely right! That is generally how I behave, worrying all the while that you will think I'm one of those people who don't "see" disabled people or care to interact with them. But it's so much the opposite that I have a hard time acting natural. I'm not sure what "natural" is, I think, in that situation, although in general I am okay socially. Just not with wheelers (when I'm walking, anyway).

... and thanks for creating the site in the first place, Lee! Which thoughts did you have prior to establishing ParaDevo? Did you imagine it would be such a success based on the number of (active) members and the busy message board?

haha...yeah, the Devs were EVERYWHERE!! I did have one stand very close to me, actually touching me with her hip, which is at my shoulder. I know her very slightly, but I just naturally put my arm around her waist as they read the raffle numbers out. I told her I was going to kiss this guy beside me if I won. In a burst of laughter she grabs my hair and pulls HARD. It actually hurt, but was really funny to me how she reacted. I then told her I'd kiss her if I lost...no reaction!!! lol Weird, huh?
Me and Tridawg also talked about getting some boxing gloves for a little chair-boxing!! He'll probably beat my ass.

Did you imagine it would be such a success based on the number of (active) members and the busy message board? No, the website came first, he only added the message board a few years later. Some history, for those that haven't heard the story already, Lee and I "met" on the old yahoo group Paraquad, which was for male devotees of disabled women around 1999/2000, I think. Back then it was very active, but eventually it got overridden with spam. I haven't looked at it in years. At the time, there were some interesting discussions but also lots and lots of trolls and super creepy devo guys. Lee and I commiserated about the lack of photo content and the lack of any kind of website for devotees of disabled guys. Eventually he formed the Paradevo site, and I provided some of the text content (which is still up, although I haven't posted anything new basically since the website started). I can't speak for Lee, but at the time, I was more focused on creating content, in the form of pictures, stories, and links, than discussions. There were already a number of devotee chat sites through yahoo and the old egroups. Also I suppose I wasn't sure there were enough devotee women to form a viable discussion board, since several others that started up around that time quickly died out. As Chan and others have mentioned, after a while Lee posted a guest book which a few people used as an ad hoc message board, then later he attached this proboards site. Triassic, perhaps you are thinking of Paraquad. I was not the founder, only a poster. It's interesting to hear that many of you came here via links from other sites. It seems like that's even more important than Google.

Wow, it's been so long, I completely forgot how I met you, Devogirl.
I made the site because I was frustrated there was nothing like it out there on the internet. Plus there were a bunch of stories I had written over the past three years or so.

I had heard of devs or chicks who dug guys in wheelchairs way back in rehab on like day 5 of being out of bed. It slipped my mind because where the hell would I explore that? A few years later the internet came around and one day it popped into my head.
