Not wanting to hijack Bananas' story thread any more, I thought I'd start a new one.
Clover, in your post in that thread you said:
It IS an awesome community, and I love the people here. Some very interesting and entertaining people. I've learned so much about myself and others and I do view the men I see out in public differently because of the interactions I’ve had and read here. I’m still nervous and not very likely to approach a guy in the grocery store, but I view them as more three dimensional. (This may be more of my psyche than you ever wanted to know…) You know, when you run into ANYONE you don’t know in public (the grocery, passing on the street, etc.) you just kind of smile and it’s like a moving snapshot, but now… while I don’t feel like I know any random wheeler better than I did before, I automatically look at them and know there’s more to them. More a person, less a moving snapshot. I’m already going to give them a little more thought because of the dev thing, but knowing the guys here makes random grocery store guy a little more real to me right off the bat… (I’m not sure I’m making any sense whatsoever really).
I agree with what you've said - it's the same with me.
Also, after being on this board, I tend to think a little bit more about common every day occurrences and how a wheeler would handle it. For example, I was home the other day and the electricity suddenly went off. After finding a torch I located the fuse box and had to stand on a chair to see which switch had been tripped. After resetting it, I was thinking about how any one of the guys here would have handled that assuming that there was no-one else in the house with him at the time. I guess I'm a bit more aware of how this world does not make things easy for wheelers after being on the board.
Does anyone else find themselves doing this as well?
