We do want to know that, windy. Mostly I'm glad you hit reply... except when you're slamming me for slamming Tony. ;D lol Please be aware that, if you ever have cause to say it out loud, it's pronounced Fanger. It sounds like I would like where you grew up, except for those terribly cold winters. ;D McD's and Wallyworld were only about 30 minutes away from where I lived and our town is small enough that I can remember not having them when I was small. There are cultural things that big cities have that I'd like to be nearer, museums, plays and stuff. And shopping! But when I've got a hankering for those things I'm still less than 2 hours away from them... so...

I don't slam people - I give big group hugs, remember?
I'm learning Southern pronunciation little by little since I've been down here...though I think I need to be missing a few teeth to really get the intonation right...only kidding...

Dude, you're in Florida.... I'm not sure they have a southern accent down there.... I mean I know it's the furthest south you can get... but, well, I think you get more accenty from Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Loosiana... I love the Louisiana pronunciations. The main thing is to slow it down, stre-etch owt yer vals (vowels), and slur or de-emphasize some con-sa-ne-ents. I'll send you a tape if you'd like. I saw myself on video recently and was ridiculously surprised at how strong my accent is.

Ah, yes but Florida is like the southern melting pot or something...there's someone from every state, especially in Winter Park...
...we get all the Alabama folks, Georgia, Tennessee, you name it. Actually there's these two young ladies that are our neighbours that have taken a liking to me...more than noi1588 would like, lol...they have quite definitive Southern accents.

Ok, windy, I'm glad that you have some appropriate tutelage. I'm sure that soon you'll be able to travel anywhere in the south and no one will ever know that you were once (still are?) a yankee. ;D Chan, when I was a little kid and they introduced me to something called phonics I was appalled. Because everyone I knew said everything wrong! So, at the advanced age of 6 I set out to eradicate my accent. (And, annoyingly correct the language of all the adults I knew. )I did well enough that when I went to middle school everyone would ask where I was from, too. Then somewhere in early adulthood I decided that I was glad I was from the south and relaxed about it. Last summer, I noticed a bizarre tendency to actually exaggerate my accent when meeting people from the north. Dunno what that's about. Yeah, Fanger makes me a little crazy too. When the guy told me about the shortcut through there, I was holding up my index finger and wiggling it going... "FInger?" "Yeah," he said, "Fanger." lol

Oh I'll never lose sight of my origins lol - actually speaking of bizarre accents - I had to work off a crazy Irish accent, and still occasionally slip into it...my father, his father, etc. all have had great difficulty in getting rid of theirs since we got over in the U.S.
...but I'll still be someone from the Union - defeat the rebels! and all of that...though I nearly shat myself when I bumped into a liberal, non-Christian, health-nut, 50-ish white man from Alabama...I was like...woah, you're in enemy territory man...
...actually due to my marriage - I actually have some 'family' in Tennessee now...noi1588's aunt, she told us she lives waaay out in the middle of nowhere, something that I think makes you sound like you live in a metropolis, lol.

Isabelle - you gotta do the run. I did the City to Surf (14ks) a couple of weeks ago and finished it in a much improved time which felt amazing. Would your partner do it with you? Wheelchair users can compete in the City to Surf here. Either way, Go Girl, and save a glass of white for me ;D! Hey Doe we actually did the run/wheel last year, I swore I would never do it againg but if the sports org needed volunteers, I'd happily serve up brekky. We've decided not to do it this year coz his right arm has been giving him some grief...so I guess I'll just have that glass of wine instead to toast Spring!

Hey, windy, I think you so should keep the crazy Irish accent... it sounds cool. And it's part of who you are... where your family is from. Love it. I've got a friend who's from Boston, we're occasional lunch buddies and she's mentoring me and I love to hear her talk. You already did defeat us! There are people down here who've been bitching about it for close to 150 years! And you know... there are plenty of liberals around here... I am very close to one of the oldest and best established hippie communes in the U.S. ... it's a pretty cool place. The territory isn't as enemy as you might think. Now, I'm dying to know where Noi'1588's aunt is... you make me wonder if I've been there.

She was telling us how she had to travel 80 miles to get to a Target...

I've not been there, but my co-worker hunts there every year. He says it's very pretty.
