My problem with dev books is that there never IS a bedtime until I'm done with them!

Wow, I have never had a story ripped up like that. I hope my writing has improved. If not I really would like to know. I'm kinda glad I wasn't here when you had the discussion, and maybe I should have saved myself the pain of reading through the thread, but Ruth mentioned that there was a discussion some time ago so I got curious. In my only defense I want to say that I never wrote it as a dev story in the first place. 'nough said.

There were some not flattering things said about my book before I arrived here too! But I think your writing is very good and the biggest issue I had with the fanfic was, as I told you through email, that I think your character was his own person, not Jake. And that's a great thing! Because you are ready to spread your wings beyond fanfic and create stories from scratch. You've been doing that quite successfully. The rich language and description in the piece for Devoted is wonderful. I'm a big fan of that story.

I just read your Frisco's Choice fanfic on the advice of Inigo. I really enjoyed it! I thought it was pretty true to the original material -- well, as true as it could be while shifting the focus from the kid and the romance to the issues Frisco was facing on his own. Which, of course, are the things us devs like The only thing I found "off" about it was that you use a lot of Britishisms throughout, such as "spanner" for "wrench" and spellings such as "manoeuvre". Normally, that's barely noticeable, but given that it was a story about an American Navy SEAL, I thought it was slightly ironic! But really, it almost added to the charm. You obviously bring a lot of knowledge, both of your original source and the mechanics (bad pun) of amputation and prosthetics. I didn't even know about TPOPs, so I looked them up after reading and got a better idea. In short: yeah, it sucks to see people criticizing what you worked so hard on (hence why I ask WAY too many questions!), but I've really enjoyed all of your writing that I've read, and I hope to read a lot more Amid a ton of us who are just scribbling out whatever comes to mind, you are clearly putting your experience to good use and creating creative, fluid pieces that are easy to enjoy.

RyooT, I just started reading your Frisco's Choice, so far so good. I like it a lot. Naval officer - yummy. Is Frisco's Kid worth reading?

I'm not a fellow writer, just a reader, but what it is worth, I really like your writing - or at least what I've read so far. "Lavender and Thyme" is my favorite story from the book "Devoted".

RyooT, I just started reading your Frisco's Choice, so far so good. I like it a lot. Naval officer - yummy. Is Frisco's Kid worth reading? I thought it's a pretty good story. But there have been many contemporary military themed stories lately. Three that stand out for me are True Surrender, Heartsight and The Marine Next Door - if these are A stories then Frisco's Kid is a B.

I just read The Marine Next Door, on your suggestion. Not bad! The only thing I'd say is noticing something that I've seen in a couple books featuring amputee heroes: they don't seem to own crutches. When he gets up in the middle of the night to check on something, he puts on his prosthesis or just hops around, holding onto the doorframe for support if he needs it. He's not that far post-injury, either. I know sometimes hopping around is perfectly fine, but doesn't putting on a prosthesis take more than, oh, 15 seconds? And why NOT use crutches? (This is probably just a romance novel shortcut, but THIS dev loves crutches, as has previously been discussed )

Yes there is Camp Wedding about Trish and Dan's wedding which is really sweet and then there is also Operation Christmas Hearts which features Ashley, Trish's friend and gallery/shop owner (where Trish sells her pictures) and her Marine love interest Nick.
