In my digging through old threads and talking to various people I've gotten the impression that the majority of the devs here are into SCI, not many into amps and a few that are into CP and other disabilities. I haven't seen a lot of crossover. I've also been told by a few ladies that are into SCI that I'm quite attractive (thanks btw ) which leads me to my question: What is it for some of you that makes you attracted to paras and quads only, while others who are primarily into SCI can also find guys with other disabilities that somewhat mimic the limitations of a para or quad attractive as well? For devs who like their fellas limbed, what is it about the limbs that does it for you?

This is not a very easy question for a dev . Its hard to explain what really atract me when i see a disabled man. My main attracton goes to guys in wheelchairs, age does not matter, the way they are sittng in their chairs makes the difference, legs crossed, feet pointed to the bottom, thats one aspect. Polio guys are my favorite too, crutching along with one leg shorter, feet barely touching the ground. Limbless guys (congenital)I really do admier the way they live there lives ,dooing everything in live with there limitations. Cp guys , walking with difficulties , thats a big attraction too. I hope I did not offent anyone , but thats the way I feel and experience my devness.

For devs who like their fellas limbed, what is it about the limbs that does it for you? I remember reading an essay by a bisexual who said she couldn't understand straight and gay people, because to her monosexuality seemed like "a fetish for a particular set of genitals". Humans have preferences. Some have a more defined "type" than another, it's just human nature. I haven't figured out where my deveness comes from, but just as with everything else, there's stuff I like and stuff I don't, and I see no reason to change that. I'll try new stuff if something piques my interest, but I'm not particularly looking for new things. About the second question... have you tried to answer it yourself? Don't you like women with limbs? For what's worth, I feel a bit uncomfortable talking specifics about how certain disabilities interest me or not when I know there's people with them who might be reading.

This is a difficult question. I don't know where it comes from and or why I have it. It's just caused by many a man and not by others. I don't think about it - it just happens.

I just realised that what attracts you in a dis guy is exactly what happens to me... And this is precisely what fascinates me about the devotees! How can a physical characteristic that I always felt ugly and that, in my opinion, always away possible suitors, arouse you so much?

That's not an easy question to answer. I had an amputee boyfriend, but that did not work out for reason's having nothing to do with disability. It might be like being gay. What attracts people to the same sex? I don't believe homosexuality is a choice. One of my best friends is gay and when I asked him when he realized he was gay, he said "I've known since I was in kindergarten". Likewise, I've always known what I like. It's not a choice for me, I just like what I like. I know my tastes have changed over the years. Blindness used to do it for me, but I've always liked SCI. Now I'm all about SCI, quad, para, (polio, CP, amp, blind, deaf all fall in after that, in no particular order).
Not sure if this helps or just brings up more questions.

I think this is one of those questions that is often asked but (almost?) impossible to answer.
I don't even know if I could say why characteristics that I find attractive in a man (that are not dev related) do it for me, either. Why do I love dark hair? Why do I find tall guys so alluring? Why do I find men's shoulders and backs particularly sexy?
I just do.... I think it's the same way for my devness. As a dev, amputees don't do anything for me, personally, but I couldn't really say why. Nor could I say why exactly seeing a guy move in his chair--it's not the chair itself for me, it's the unity of person and chair--does it for me, either.
It just is. LOL.

Like others before, I also don't have an explanation as to why I prefer some disabilities and others don't do anything for me at all. If I think back to my earliest dev fantasies it was pretty much equal opportunity between amps and paras. Over time amps moved into the foreground maybe because I had more direct exposure. There was an amp living in our road for example who I used to see often on my way to or from school. Or occasional encounters with family acquaintances or friends (nobody in my family directly), whereas I only ever met a para for the first time in my early twenties. If I imagined my ideal fantasy guy now as either an amp or a para they would be equally attractive to me.

About the second question... have you tried to answer it yourself? Don't you like women with limbs? That is such a good point Enid. I do like women with limbs and I couldn't tell you why. For what's worth, I feel a bit uncomfortable talking specifics about how certain disabilities interest me or not when I know there's people with them who might be reading. Sorry about that. Wasn't my intention to make anyone feel uncomfortable.

Maybe it's just me, but this question feels reminiscent of asking why someone likes ice cream or why they like cheddar cheese and not blue. If I recall correctly, there have been multiple studies about what attracts us with no solid answers.

My dad's brother was a para who I was around a lot as a little kid, (under 12), but I wasn't around at all as a teen or adult. I don't think association or lack of association played a part in my devness at all.

Yeah, this is an impossible question to answer. There IS no definitive answer. I think it could be something as simple as internalizing any disability and finding attraction in that. What attracts you to a certain type of disability could possibly carry over into another, especially if you like that person. Like everything though, everyone has preferences. I prefer raw carrots over cooked Although I prefer one type of disability, I find attraction in even the idea of another type of disability and its limitations it has on someone...or something along those lines.

I hardly know where to start. The question why some devs are more equal opportunity and others are not is an interesting one to me because, well I'm not equal opportunity at all. For those of you who don't know 'm just attracted to guys who are amputees. For what it's worth, I was never very equal opportunity with any guys I was attracted to, even with AB guys I was pretty picky wand always looked for a certain look.
For me, I can somewhat explain what I like about guys who are amputees and that explanation explains why I don't like guys with similar limitations who also have their limb(s). I like stumps (or whatever they are on a guy born without a limb). How a guy moves the parts of his body that are different and the different shape of an amputees body is often attractive to me. Obviously there are other things I like about guys who are amputees but that is a big part of my attraction and just isn't there for guys with limbs, disabled or not.
For those of you who are attracted to all kinds of disabilities, there must be something that encompasses your interest in lots of guys and crosses disability types.

Obviously a really good question.. look at all the replies.. but I think the consensus is... They don't truly know. They just are. Why some prefer blonds... some prefer lighter or darker skin... skinnier or curvier girls.. older or younger women... gay, straight or bi. At the end of the day I would like to say it's nothing personal... well nothing personal against other people.... BUT what we as individuals find attractive is very personal... and our reasons for liking different things can be as varied as the amount of individuals that have their own tastes.
