...I kept seeing women on OkCupid visiting my profile that weren't from my region. I wasn't sure why people would come read it when chances were slim we'd bump into each other at the supermarket, so I sent a message to one. I asked her why she came and checked me out from half the country away, and what I wasn't counting on was that she was searching "wheelchair." I wasn't even aware that could be done, and after a few messages she invited me to your little corner of the Internet. I had heard of devotees before, but to my knowledge I've never run into one, much less slept with one (if any of them were, they sure weren't telling me). So I'd figure I'd introduce myself to your little tribe. Typically I wouldn't do something like this, as I tend to de-emphasize my "disability" (SCI gunshot at T3, I was a naughty, naughty boy when I was younger...) both online and when I'm out and about since I don't really consider myself disabled. I was wondering how she could have found me, until I realized I said the phrase "wheelchair fencing" in my profile. Anyway, I'm from St. Louis, although I'm not sure you guys have meet'n greets since this is a fairly niche thing. I'm still going through the General forum to see what this place is all about and how you guys came to realize you were devotees. I'll share some pics since that seems to be the thing to do here, and when in Rome... and my favorite... Obviously I've been known for prioritizing my own health and safety. Feel free to reply or say hi!

Welcome.
Don't worry, "not feeling disabled" is not frowned upon, unless you try to enforce your feelings on others in some strange way to prove that you are somehow superior (yes perhaps this is a strange comment but we get those guys too.)
And what a sweet dev who decided to share you with the rest when she could have kept you to her self hihi.

Welcome aboard! That last b&w picture has been floating around the internet for a while. I have seen it a few times. I would not be so trusting letting a people crowd surf me that is for sure. I haven't seen it floating around myself. But yeah, it was the most dangerous thing I've done and really felt like I was going to die--it was just a total loss of control. The picture makes it look so much cooler than it was, I wasn't up but for a few seconds until I motioned for people to put me down.

They sure did... I had to tap more than a few peoples' shoulders but eventually they all got the idea that in the span of 3-5 seconds (much longer than you realize when you've lost all control) that I'd already had enough. It's also pretty strange to know that you guys had seen that pic before, with a sense that "my reputation precedes me," haha.

Well hello there, welcome. Mind if I ask what sort of gig you were at in that awesome photo? There was a festival in Lawrence, KS--it was multiple venues, all for free. It was GarageFest in 2010. Best bands were King Khan & the Shrines (with guest singer Gino Washington!), The Clean (NZ), Thee Oh Sees, Hunx and His Punx, Digital Leather, and of course, the big daddies, The Oblivians, who were headlining the whole thing. Those are all amazing bands if you're into garage rock/punk and I made the drive over from Columbia, MO where I was in college. I was followed by a buncha drunk dudes during the King Khan set, who kept suggesting I crowd surf, but I wasn't nearly inebriated enough to think that was at-all a good idea. The drunk dudes followed me to The Oblivians at the Bottleneck, where they kept pestering me. By this time my mood had changed as did the amount of alcohol I had consumed. I was screaming for The Oblivians to play "Pinstripe Willie," and when they did I just thought to myself how crowd surfing was always a box I wanted to check before I died, so I got the drunk dudes to hoist me up. Like I said though, totally scary and I'll never do it again, but I'm glad I got to experience it for a few seconds.
