You're an orc lover? ;-)
That's a good explanation, I think, and one I've seen before.

yes, i believe that's a pretty common example that many of us use to simplify the situation for non-devs.

This is a good question and perhaps my perspective is different only because I am in a long-term relationship with an AB of my dreams (and we are talking about quality of a man, correct?).
So, for me, my answer would clearly be similar: If I had the choice between my SO as an AB or as a DA, I would #devinately choose DA, but since I don't have that choice, I choose AB. Is that clear enough, haha.

I won't even try to explain to my friends....but for myself I always feel that if I see a nice looking guy it is all good but if he would be in a wheelchair it would be so much better...just as if I do see a nice looking wheeler it is great and I would not feel the same way if I saw him walking around - then he is just another good looking guy...so I do think the wheelchair plays such a big role in the attraction, it changes everything for me, it causes anxiety attack and irregular heart beat and just being a mess for a little while...so much for that...:-) Then I am discovering though that attractive guys with other disabilities are interesting to me as well, like the guy I encountered at the bank (thread in the general section), he was not in a wheelchair...but it didn't hit me as hard as when I see a wheeler..

No, she was mean and manipulative.
They were not identical but I still found the resemblance startling that first time.

I haven't heard the identical twins explanation but I've said something similar along the lines of what Kivic said: same guy amputee or not I'd like him to be an amputee.

I agree that "put a wheelchair on it" makes a guy so much hotter. My girlfriend and I also share the "put a ponytail/man bun on it" thing, too. Or "put a beard on it". Those desires are just as strong as the wheelchair for me! Haha. I use that comparison to explain it to people. They all know how creepy and flustered I get around dudes with lots of hair/facial hair, so I think they get it. The bf is rocking all three right now and I am in heaven. SCORE.

Put a sporty chair on it
Put a uniform on it
Put an accent on it (anything European)
(I used to be put long hair on it...not so much anymore)

My husband described himself to me: Blond hair, blue eyes, one leg, has an accent. LOL So that could be it for me. I do have a serious answer though, just not enough time to do it right.

No time to write me a single sentence..? ;-) Like me, I'm not sure lucretia can answer anything in a single sentence.

Perhaps because I don't have a lot of patience for the long process of coming to terms with becoming disabled and identifying with it. Maybe it would be different if we could skip that part. But also because I don't know what ways that might change my husband and I love him as he is now As far as summing it up, I'm still using the "it's like preferring blondes" even though I know that's not entirely accurate. It puts people at ease. I do need to come up with a better one.

For me, he's the guy. I use him in many of my fantasies, but I feel that if he were to be disabled irl then my fantasies wouldn't nearly have the same intensity. This is something I have always done with him, used him in my dev fantasies, so really in a way, he is key to my devness. We've been together coming on 15 years, and he is still "the guy."

It's funny, I have also used the twins explanation. I think I may have used that with my boyfriend? I didn't want to go into depth per se, and that was the easiest explanation I could come up with. I have only told one friend, and I used the "it's like preferring blue eyes" analogy because I thought that may be easier for her to understand. Hell, sometimes I don't even understand it!
