Hello all you beautiful people!
I stumbled upon this place during a late-night Google binge earlier this week and have found myself coming back for more ever since. I've never been too good at just sitting back and watching while there's fun going on so I'm ready to stop lurking and join the party (no offense to any wonderful lurkers reading this, of course - you do you, baby!).
Growing up involved in things like wheelchair sports, crippled kids camp, etc. I've certainly HEARD whispers about "devotees" before. But it wasn't until I came here the other night and really started reading what folks had to say that I began thinking of it as something other than, "So. There are women out there who are turned on by guys in chairs... uh, cool?" The thought, depth, compassion and respect demonstrated by many of the regulars here is pretty awesome. I always enjoy exploring the politics and sociology of disability and I was really encouraged to see how many devs "get it," despite coming at it from such a totally different place than I have. Very cool.
Of course there're the weirdos you find anywhere too, but hey, it's the Internet; I'm not gonna hold that against ya
As for myself well, like I said, being born with lumbosacral agenesis I've used a chair my whole life (normally I don't just leave it at the fancy name but I trust this crowd knows its way around a diagnosis). I work in film and video while living on my own here smack dab in the middle of Philadelphia and absolutely love it. I also do a lot of advocacy and activism around disability rights issues, both locally and nationally, and I love to go out dancing. I enjoy hearing from and connecting with folks from all points of view but I don't have much patience for misogyny so if you're after someone to gripe about how stupid women are, I'm not that guy. I am excited to weighing in on some of the Pop Culture/Media threads I've seen around here (that's kinda my thang) and am really open to talking about anything and everything else for that matter. I don't balk easily but you're welcome to try
Thanks for reading (sorry if it got a little long but I NEVER know what to include in these intros - too much? too little? blah!). I can't wait to meet you all soon!
