Just listening to Hank MobleyDid you already? "Not very well" always depends on the standards you want to reach. I once had someone plugging the strings of my harp, an older man who could not read a note, never played any instrument... he just plugged one string at a time, sometimes the same string again and again, sometimes very slow, completely immersed in the sound, oblivious of anything but the harp and it's sound... and it was so sweet - he found out which string sounded how quite fast, and he made the harp talk. I just listened for more than half an hour - daydreaming in the pictures the sound woke. He obviously could not play "very well" if Zabaleta is your point of reference. He still presented me with a wonderful time and beautiful sound. What more does one want? Errr... I was about six years old, and I had a cassette with a Christmas-story in which a small angel wanted to play the trumpet, but had to learn to play the harp, being told: "You manage that, you can choose the next instrument!" - and I thought: "Well, ok, so I'll learn the harp right now, and maybe choose something different in heaven." :-D
Around Christmas, you hear and see a lot of harps in the media. So I became very persistent - and I liked the sound. Needed two years to convince my parents, though, during which I had to learn recorder. Bah. Now that was my personal "I don't want to play..." experience! After those two years, I was willing to give the violin a try (would have been cheaper - and easier to carry), but for the life of me could not produce any sound howsoever with a bow on the stings. As I said before: The harp is extremely kind, it produces beautiful sound almost immediately. So harp it was. ;-)
Having a predilection for some kinds of music does not make one a snob - as long as one is at least willing to give different or new things a try now and then, does it?

I've recently been listening to Carpenter Brut on my commute to work. It makes me feel like I'm driving just a little bit faster ^_^

Hopper I know this is the music thread but since you and erikajulia talked about harps, I wanted to add this real quick...I work at a hospital and we actually have a harp player come through regularly playing for non verbal or very sick patients. He usually sits in the door to their room and plays. It is very nice I think and I love the concept but I also have to smile a bit because I imagine that with the beautiful tunes he plays, some patients may be mistaken that they are already at heavens gates...lol

So I finally started watching "Vikings" and with that came across Fever Ray who has the opening theme "If I had a heart" which I love btw. She also did this one, a remake of a Peter Gabriel song, can't get enough of it

I've got a week in between terms, so I took the day off work today to do nothing at all. After bartering a bahn mi from a friend in exchange for giving her a lift to the train station, I went home and donned pajamas, and have since been day drinking and playing loud Dead Can Dance while working on various creative projects. It is good. I saw Lisa Gerrard recently at a Hans Zimmer concert. She was amazing!

I’m forever stuck in the 90’s. Going through a Third Eye Blind phase...again. In terms of current music, I really love Banks and Lizzo I’ll be seeing them all at a festival in the Fall, which I’m looking forward to!

Probably one of their best. I'm a metal head but I was a teen in the 90s so I love a lot of the pop and rock from that era
