Here's a question I've been meaning to ask for some time. Finally got up the courage to do so. Must be the extra-large coffee I won in Tim Horton's RRRRRRoll up the Rim to Win contest this morning. But I digress... I've noticed that a lot of you wheelers (NOT all) don't post pictures showing your legs. They're cropped to face and upper body and don't show much chair or leg. Is that on purpose? Is it that you're ashamed to show that part of your body? And for those that do post pics showing chair and legs, how would you feel if some dev commented that your legs are HOT? Would you be insulted, embarrassed, or please by the compliment? And for the devs...do you want to see a bit more leg too? Or is it just me?

Hey Joell, yeah, it does happen, and as a matter of fact it was your photo that prompted this. My first reaction was to post "NICE LEGS!!!" and then I thought better of it and never posted anything. But since then I've wondered...how inappropriate of a response is that, actually, in a place like this?

My photos are often with other people, who are often taller than me when standing, so I think as a natural result my lower portions are missed in an effort to get everyone in the shot. Plus, look through your own pics. How many full body shots do you have compared to chest up? I really don't have a problem showing my legs, though. Nor do I have a problem receiving compliments. A girl told me I was "hot" after kissing me last weekend. I wasn't offended.

I had the same thoughts as E, but I couldn't find the words to explain what he said. E is clearly more intellectual than me!!!!

Claire,
Not that I've posted any pics here, but in regards to pics of me in general, most don't show my legs. Now, I may need to do more to avoid any further atrophy and rebuild some of what I've lost over the years, but I've been lucky to avoid much atrophy over the years, so I really wasn't embarrassed by my legs. and it's just recently that I've noticed the loss of muscle creeping further.
However, the fact that my pics don't show my legs is the result of the photographer, and the pic's content. Most people tend to focus on faces and upper bodies, whether in solo or group photos. Pics of social events are often centered around tables and such (like weddings) where everyone's legs are hidden from view too. In fact, when I think about it, it's rare that I see any ABs' feet in pics, unless the pic is taken from afar, a pose at a landmark or a snap of a dance floor. I'm sure if those same ABs were posting pics of themselves, they'd use the close-ups that didn't show their feet, and I wouldn't assume that they were ashamed of their thighs or feet. However, I can see where some of us wheelers might be self-conscious about certain photos of our legs, depending on what we may be wearing and how they appear. But they are the legs we go out with everyday, so there really is no hiding them or running away from them, to make a pun.
However, all in all, they are fair questions, and I look forward to the answers from both the wheelers and the devs here.
Billy

Claire,
First, as I said earlier, they are fair questions, valid even one would think in this forum, and I DO look forward to responses from both wheelers and devs. I'm especially interested in knowing whether some wheelers may be ashamed of there legs and why, how many will/won't wear shorts and why, and what kind of legs which devs go for...the atrophied twiggy look, the normal look or no preference?
Second, you're very welcome for my reply.
Ah, that's 2 posts closer to God status! LMFAO. I'll see God (assuming there is one) before I bore you all with that many postings!

Hey Billy. In answer to your question, I personally utterly melt for the atrophied twiggy look. Not just because they're thin but because they are so obviously completely paralyzed. As for how wheelers feel about their legs, there was this interesting thread not too long ago. Feel free to revive it!

Same as the other guys really depends on who takes the photos. Most people take upper body shots of me it seems but not always.
Rarely are my legs seen in the flesh mainly as my legs are milk bottle white save for the hair, burn too easily in the sun, giving dysreflexia; get cold too quick in UK weather & have a leg bag attached so keep generally keep covered to keep warm.
They have some atrophy and are slightly shiny at the knees but embarrassed or ashamed by my legs, I am not!

Definitely an interesting and thought provoking question, Claire -
I can't really say much from my point of view, as I've only once posted a pic. here - but in general I would tend to exclude my legs from a picture as well - perhaps because I think of them as a less of a part of me (though I acknowledge they're there of course). As I mentioned in the other thread...I don't find my legs to be the best feature of me - so I wouldn't focus a photo on my legs normally.
A part of me being called 'HOT'...perhaps when Hell freezes over...but I suppose I would be both embarassed (wow, there's someone who likes what I got...?) and flattered I think.

Gday Fubb how'd you manage to put on weight in your legs? Leg exercises? Although my partner's legs haven't atrophied badly (due to the spasms) I read somewhere that regular exercise can and will defer further atrophy. In that case, any ideas how we can exercise his legs?
