C6/7 of 13 years here and avid gamer. Persistence is key to hopping back on the sticks. I couldn't play games for shit after my accident, I'd say I'm fairly competent now.
Here's a pretty old video of me playing COD back when I was making YouTube videos.
My technique will have evolved a lot since then, and it's different for every game, but it gives you an idea of what's possible. You just gotta keep trying.
Hit me up if you need any advice or support man. Not just for video games but life in general. You're still new to all this, but once you find your groove you'll be flying.
P.S. I also play Hearthstone. LimpLegs#2191

Hey matt I'm a C5/6 quad from california too! Welcome to the board. Unfortunately you're still kind of in the rough part in terms of recovery and regaining your independence. Just keep up with your PT and keep working at regaining some normalcy and things will start getting easier. Im decent enough at video games with my quad hands to beat my friends in smash bros and play skyrim haha. Plus there is lots of adaptive equipment available as well. I'm sure you probably put your college plans on pause for now but when you want to get back to it if you need information or resources don't hesitate to reach out. It can be super tough figuring out how to live and mange everything independently after your injury, but moving out and going to school was the best thing I ever did (and college is a great place to meet people). The quad life can be pretty tough especially at the start but if you ever have any questions or need support feel free to reach out!

Welcome to the jungle, Matt. Sorry you were thrust into this world...seems so cruel to me, even though I was also forced into this quad-world...c4-5 for me. Mine was 38 years ago, so i'm at the opposite end of the spectrum, but it should encourage you that can go on . It's so new to you at this point, and I remember the uncertainty well. However, babysteps towards normalcy and freedom is now your challenge.

Hi everyone, My name is Matthew, or matt for short, I am an incomplete c3 quadriplegic, although I function at the level of c5, and I'm from california, hence the name. I'm 18 years old and was injured just before I was about to move into my dorm for college, since then a lot has happened most of my friends either moved away for school or became distant in general after my accident, I spend most of my time with PT and other various drs appointments, recently i've tried to get back into gaming but that's an uphill battle when your hands don't really work too well haha, if anyone plays hearthstone let me know! Anyways I'm just looking to meet people to talk too who I don't feel the need to mask my disability too, I'm a single heterosexual male but I'm open to talking to anyone. A little more about me, I'm known to have a dry-ish sense of humor at times, I'm pretty easy to talk too I think, and it's okay to be a little strange, I promise I won't run away. ( mainly because I can't (see dry humor) ) Welcome Matt... not a club anyone CHOOSES to be a part of. But you will find that you can find some pretty amazing wheelers and devs in this community. Don't hesitate to reach out... Best of luck... we are here.

Well, I am still around, unfortunately since this all began I've always had a hard time expressing myself, I would tend to just say or do nothing than take action, it took a lot for me to even write that post.
A week or so later a woman messaged me and we exchanged great long messages, I finally began to come out of my shell then bam, they became a ghost and just sorta vanished and never replied to my last message to them. Since then I haven't really been eager to jump back in.

Welcome, brother! This place can be as fulfilling as you want it to. Participate often and you'll make some new friends and probably chat up some interesting women that will open your eyes to a world of possibilities. Keep in mind that Devs are super rare and you'll probably never see one in the wild. Stick around though - they can help teach us wonderful things like loving and accepting ourselves.
