Oh, yes..........didn’t want to say anything, but I’ll just go ahead. I find it hard to hear the about how dated my photo is when only one person commenting on this actually has a real photo at all. And that’s half a face. I tell you what, I’ll update my photo, which is pretty much the same look, if all of you just even put a photo at all. Cool? Not cool. No one is required to post a photo here. Just because you choose to post one doesn't oblige anyone to post anything in return. Members have the right to be discreet here as this board is easily searchable. But if you do choose to post a photo, it's reasonable for people to expect it to be a recent one. But hey, as long as it's not against the photo guidelines you can post whatever you want or post nothing at all.

You know, now that we're talking about it, I don't think I've tried Malaysian food. The idea of mango chicken is getting me all titillated. How similar would you say it is to Vietnamese? The combination of sour, spicy, hot and cold, and the textures on a bahn mi sandwich are are the sort of thing that inspires artists. Malaysian food is not really like Vietnamese except in the most general sense. It's not as spicy and there is no pork as they are Muslim. I find it much too fishy for my taste, there's dried sardines and shrimp paste in everything. Roti canai aka roti prata is much closer to Indian cuisine, and yes it's really good. My favorite combo is egg and onion. Yum!

This sounds like a great deal, let me tell you what, I'm willing to post a picture of myself when I was 19, if you'll update your photo to a new, fresh one. Cheers, L

My favorite combo is egg and onion. Yum! While it's true there is a large Muslim population in Malaysia and it is the official religion of the nation, not all practice the faith, with only about 61% of the population listed as Muslim per Wikipedia. The restaurant I went to does have pork dishes, as the owners appear to be Buddhists, with a large Buddha statue at the entrance. Southeast Asia has a lot of similar ingredients; fish sauce, shrimp paste, galangal, chilis, cilantro/coriander, etc. But the variations from country to country, and even regions within a country vary greatly. Thai is generally much spicier than Vietnamese or Malaysian. Vietnamese also blends a bit of French cooking from their time under French rule, while Thailand and Malaysia borrow dishes and techniques from mainland China, India, and elsewhere. Comparing one to the other is like comparing Cuban food to Mexican food; there are some root similarities in some dishes, but the styles of cooking and ingredients are very different. DG, I'd certainly give Malaysian another try; perhaps a different restaurant, but certainly, it's not everyone's taste.

My ex step-mother-in-law is Thai. Her cooking is absolutely out of this world!!
But... One dinner with a bunch of her friends I wanted to try the salad they were enjoying. They kept insisting it was "warm".
I like warm things (??)... So I convinced them to let me try it.
Apparently, if a Thai person thinks something is "warm" it means it will literally combust in your mouth and set the inside of your body on fire.

I've made Thai food at home, and let me say this...merely cutting open....not even chopping, just cutting open Thai bird's eye chilies is akin to getting pepper sprayed and tear gassed. I could barely breathe for a minute or so, and my eyes teared up so bad, it was pure hell. I ended up making the dish with jalapenos, which was a lot more tolerable. I don't mind if they put some Thai chilies in the food, but I will never, ever touch come close to a raw one again.

Apparently, if a Thai person thinks something is "warm" it means it will literally combust in your mouth and set the inside of your body on fire. When I was 19, I had this radical plan to get out of the states by going to Thailand to teach English. I studied pretty hard, and took a trip there to backpack around and immerse myself. The first thing I learned to say in Thai, after "hello, my name is..." was, "Can you please make it not spicy?" There's hot, and then there's Thai hot. It's practically an industrial scale. Yeah I mean, I'm no wimp when it comes to spicy; I have three different hot sauces and cajun seasoning on my table alone, but Thai hot is brutal. I'm kinda glad this Malaysian place made things on the milder side; you can always add hot chili oil if you wish.

Wow. Look, you are making me want to take my picture down. I’m not forcing anyone to do anything nor do I want to. I posted, and all I got was static about my picture from people that don’t even have one. No welcome or hello, just straight to this. I’ll change the picture. But not to appease anyone. If you don’t like my picture don’t look at it or comment. Simple as that .Thank you.

Picture changed. I decided why pander to rude people. So there you go. Me unshaven with my hair messed up, and my beautiful daughter instead gets the spotlight. Enjoy!

How did you expect to get a proper welcome if you post literally nothing in your intro? Look at it from our perspective...you come here and say "looking"...I really meant it, looking at what, for what, with what....I don't know. We get too many people that jump in here, say nothing about themselves at all and expect us to be this welcoming bunch. As much as I don't mind your daughter, but I kind of don't care about her. You want to be here and want to meet us, let us meet you and get to know you with a recent pic if you so decide to and tell us about yourself. As for me, I had a full facial up forever btw but just changed my pic recently to the "Halloween" themed profile pic.

...oh and just because, the picture on the intro of the guy right under your intro at this moment is not much better, is he sleeping in the picture? You can see his intro is written a bit more detailed but the picture...well...Why is it so difficult for people to just normally introduce themselves?

Unbelievable! That post was not directed at you. It was for anyone. Well it’s under the “personals” Thread. Should be obvious. I saw plenty of people with less get more of a welcome. But hey, have the last word if you like. We can agree to disagree thank you. Life story coming shortly. Your a feisty one! Please allow me time to fill out all these fields.
