Hi everyone!
As some of you know, I took a break from PD awhile back to handle some newly arisen mental health issues. I'm happy to say that I'm ready to come back and I'm pretty enthusiastic about being a part of PD again.
The changes:
I was diagnosed with Bipolar and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and started medication/therapy for both. It's been a few months now since I first had a bit of a mental break down, which drove me to seek psychiatric help. It was pretty scary at first. I was paranoid and anxious about everything, especially about losing myself in myself and also about losing the support of Karotix, a member on here who I had been dating for several months. I'm happy to report that now I feel great and I'm really relieved that I can now think a lot more clearly and have a stronger grasp on my emotional regulation as well. As for the relationship, it didn't work out. We were both going through mental health issues simultaneously and neither of us were really prepared to support the other the way they needed to be supported during such a chaotic time. I don't know what's going on with him, so please don't ask. We broke up a few weeks back and although we tried to reconcile once, we are now not currently in contact, which is honestly probably for the best for both of us to continue to heal and work on prioritizing our own mental health needs.
The things that stayed the same: I'm still a dev (yay!) and probably more sure than ever of my interests in (dis)ability from all angles, including checking out sexy SMAers (hey there other wheelers, calm down, you're sexy, too). I'm still working on disability studies in graduate school and it's looking like I'm going to work in the contemporary period as I'm getting pretty into analyzing film. I'm currently working with Ernest Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises which features an impotent 'protagonist.' Have you seen it? Do you want to discuss it? Send me a PM.
Or honestly, send me a PM about whatever, whenever.
Cheers.

Interesting that you are doing an analysis of the Hemingway story that includes an injury that leaves the protagonist with sexual dysfunction. The prevailing thought as I understand it is that the injury described was incurred by Hemingway in his participation in WW1. There was much speculation as to the size of his “equipment” that caused him life long issues. Well Ernest seems to be bothered by something.

My approach isn’t situated in Hemingway’s real life sexual issues or lack there of, but it’s an interesting thought! For one essay, I look at the way in which Jake (the main character who is impotent) is able to dominate a realm usually reserved for the ‘gay best friend’ because he impotency allows him to be read as a non-threat to the other males competing for Brett’s attention (female love interest). In the other essay I examine the way in which Jake’s impotency is used as a way in which to reconstruct American masculinity in the lost generation post WWI.
