This guy does annoy me a bit. Mostly the cranked smile at all times but I really think he does a great service and is genuine and cares about these kids. Some adults too. Petition at bottom of utube vid. U tube has blocked all their comments. Because their are children in vids. I understand they are trying to protect kids but this seems extreme. He and his wife are very distraught. Comments?

blueskye101I’ve seen a few of his videos and have mixed feelings as well. It’s great how he helps kids and teaching people but I agree his smile is annoying I do think it is good that there is no way to comment because YouTube can be brutal and who knows what horrible things people might say. Then you have the children growing up and reading those comments

YouTube would be far better if it just got rid of comments completely and let community building happen on other platforms (reddit, discord).

This particular video seemed put on to me a bit but generally he does not annoy me at all. I think he is a kind soul. He started SBSK when he was a special Ed teacher and wanted them to feel like they meant something. I think he is pretty pure in his intentions. Using the community he has built he has been able to raise funds to help a guy with a TBI get an accessible van, etc. I think YouTube has gone pretty overboard. The point of disabling the comments was to prevent pedophiles from commenting and communicating about videos of little kids doing things that could be slanted sexually, not to prevent someone from reading a negative comment, which happens out in public anyway. Can't protect people's feelings at all times. That is unrealistic. Part of the problem is that big businesses like Disney get to keep their comments. So Toddlers and Tiaras has theirs, which is a show that is much more exploitive of children. YouTube gets lots of money from those companies so they don't get affected. That's the BS part of all of it.

Is this only on certain videos? I am a little lost right now... But I was surprised when I watched a video of this one dude and I didn't see any comments and I was wondering about that but thought that the guy who owns the videos set it up like that...

I personally love youtube comments. It's how we got the legend of Abu Hassar (see comments on video):
Not to mention the legend of analweight:
I just looked at the comments on the above video, and apparently the song was on Breaking Bad which took over the comments. But before that, the top rated comment simply said: Analweight.
"I'm a horse I'm a horse I'm a horse I'm a horse" -- Hilarious interpretation also courtesy of youtube comment.

Also, I skipped around through that video in the OP, and I think the man has really pretty eyes. But seriously, their chagrin at the "persecution", and the miserable looks of despair on the woman's face were too much for me. Like OMG your youtube comments got disabled. Stop acting like someone raped your baby.

It's my understanding that the removal of comments on videos featuring children is only a temporary measure while YouTube figure out ways of combatting pedophilic behaviour. There were a lot of very inappropriate comments being made on innocent videos of children, this had to be addressed swiftly. The safest option was to disable comments while they came up with a more permanent solution.
I didn't watch their whole video so they may have touched on it, if not then they really should have googled what was happening before making a video like this.
I have my suspicions though. YouTube drama is very popular on the platform, and they conveniently made their video JUST long enough to maximize ad revenue. There's a possibility they know this is only temporary and are playing it up for views.

For a fun excersize, try to keep an eye on how many videos you see that are around 10 minutes long and how much actual content is in those videos. One example that my friends laughed about recently was a 11 minute video about a question that had a yes or no answer.

Especially since the algorithm takes comment activity into account when ranking videos. That said if YouTube didn't shut that shit down fast, advertisers would bail, again. A lot of YouTubers I used to watch still haven't recovered from when a Pepsi ad got put on an ISIS video causing advertisers to ditch YouTube. Most YouTubers' ad revenue dropped by 50%. Given that YouTube isn't that lucrative anymore, I'm not surprised they are using every trick to maximize revenue. It's all in the game.
