We're not that big that we have to be so strict about that here. Please do read through the old threads a bit, but if you want to start a new topic that's fine. Sometimes someone will post a link if the topic was already discussed, but that's just to be helpful. Thank you! I will most definitely search a moment before opening a thread on any topic. And if anyone points out what I missed, I can and will be happy to o and read what has already been written. :-)

Hey girl! I'm very new here too and also a probably but not yet sure blind devotee! Not from Germany though, I'm a brazilian living in Argentina. But my best friend is german and I've been dreaming about taking a trip there someday! Nice to meet you π Ola! A friend of mine has a guest from Brazil (Brazil? I think so. Hmmm...) right now, who stays here for a one year work-exchange. She says Germany is "sweet, small". :-) I like spring and autumn most, our colorful seasons, but many people hope to see some snow, and the biggest chances for that are in January or February. If you come here, say so in advance, we could all organize a gathering. ;-)

Thank you! There seem to be quite a few devs from Germany here, aren't there? I think more devs than PWDs. Yea, but isn't that generally so? Well, I did not come here to find the man of my dreams (though finding a man to share my life with would be a nice bonus...), but to find out more about being a dev and participating in the community. So the quota here is fine with me. :-D

Welcome to the board. The Germans and British are starting to build numbers here Well, the British and the Germans need to build "whatever" together as long as they still can - before the British leave the EU and everything gets too complicated. ;-)
Thank you for the friendly welcome! Are you an archer?

By the way, a question to all the "old" members: Do you sometimes organize meetings of groups? I know it from another board, and sometimes is really is fun.

HaHa no I'm not an archer. I'm from the land of Robin Hood. *facepalm* The flag of Nottinghamshire! Thank you! A cheer for local patriotism!

HaHa no I'm not an archer. I'm from the land of Robin Hood. strictly speaking, Robin Hood was born in Loxley, which is South Yorkshire ... give us back our archer π @tykes, the White Rose of York is quite pretty! It reminds me of the rose of the county where I was born: and of another heraldic rose important to me, too: There is no need to argue about a man in tights. ;-)
(Well, archers are cool, but roses are, too.)

A belated welcome to the forums! I'm kind of jealous of Tykes, Raspberri and yourself though. You get flowers as a symbol of your hometown whilst I get.....just either a peice of rope or a generic coat of arms. Boo!

Don't be jealous. Does the rope have a nice story to it? (Care to show the picture?) Btw, the coat of arms of my birth-town is very strange - a blue plough-iron turned left on yellow ground - I mean ... hΓ€h? Looks like a drunken mechanic lost a part of a machine on his way... and gives away that it was an extremely poor, agricultural area. :-D
It's the district that shows the red rose. The coat of arms of the city I live in now is pretty cool, too, but it holds no roses.
Ah... and I'm giving away with all that strange talk of coats of arms that I like history and especially the stories that come with it... and that I'm quite geeky sometimes. ;-)

The story of the rope is a somewhat gruesome and blackly comic one. Legend has it that 3 convicted criminals who were due to be hung for same crime were arguing among themselves about who should get hung first. The hangman got annoyed with this and decided to tie the rope in a certain way so that he could hang all 3 at the same time. I like your coat of arms, it's unusual but at the same time, very bold.

erikajulia well the red rose gave me the shivers, always does as there was no official peace treaty following the War of the Roses. *splutters in shock and indignation* But ... but ... that is neither a Lancaster Rose (which is turned the other way round and and more pink than red, filled white, not yellow) nor a Tudor Rose, which still bears the wrong colors (and is a double rose), though it is turned the right way. The simple red rose of the house of Lippe should cause you no shivers, the English and the regiments of Lippe (Schaumburg-Lippe, to be exact, but they carry that rose, too) fought side by side for example in the battle of Minden during the seven year's war (which was, admittedly, a lot later than the War of the Roses...) ;-) No, simply Protestantism, a direct referrence to Luther (and yes, I know he said some extremely horrendous things about jews, disabled children, and women.) Still, the rose is beautiful. ;-)
