The story of the rope is a somewhat gruesome and blackly comic one. Ok, the hangman obviously was a man who gave serious thought to his work. Beware of the middle of England and the practical approach on life and death there! :-D The county's motto, read with this story in the back of the head is ... hilarious.
I like the association with our omnipresent Bretzeln much better, and I know now what I will have for breakfast tomorrow morning. Lye pretzels. Hmmmmm! Yes, quite like the people in that area where I was born. Blunt and hard - but taking care the children are fed. Makes me wonder now and again how the town I live in now (and where the people are quite straightforward and blunt, too) comes to display such a playful, feminine coat of arms. Being a romantic woman *cough*, I like the rose and the girl between the towers more than the plough. ;-)

erikajulia Indeed, even funnier still is the county's repuatation as the 'Creative County'. Pretzels for breakfast? Now that sounds amazing. Ah, now I see she's holding a bough. At first glance I thought it was some sort of tambourine. It's strikingly creative all the same.

They base that on what? :-) (Well, I'm living in a state that until recently greeted everybody with big sign-boards at all the Autobahnen: "Welcome to the land of early risers" ... *facepalm* so I should keep my mouth firmly shut. ;-) They are. Even though we are not even near Bavaria or Swabia or Frankonia, we have some bakeries here that do a decent job. The Pretzels are best with butter and cheese or cuts of sausage. I like them fresh and soft inside - and a tiny bit crisp outside. (in Bavaria, I would love to have them with Weißwurst and sweet mustard, but you don't get good Weißwurst here) So: Thank you for the inspiration. What will be your breakfast? And against the art of heraldry. Normally, a city's coat of arms has to be approved, in our state by the main archive. They refused, because the woman is too big, the towers are too small, and there it too much white background. :-D But the state attested to the city that the city bears a coat of arms - and therewith the coat of arms is not approved as it should be, but officially tolerated. Totally nuts.

Well, to be honest I haven't looked it up, I just saw it on a roadsign once and it stuck. The land of early risers? And they say German efficiancy is a stereotype. Damn, now you're really making me hungry for pretzels There's a small counter that sells pretzels in a city 15 minutes away including one filled with cheese and sausage. So thank YOU for the inspiration. It should be an official COA. Yes the scale is a a little off butbit srill esl

Did you get your Pretzel? ;-)

Welcome from another German dev!
And, oh my god, finally another dev from Eastern Germany! I can't believe it :-). I guess we live quite close (according to PD standards anyway), I'm from Leipzig.
I hope you'll have a great time here, this board has helped me a lot during the first years of my dev discovery journey ;-).

Yes, according to PD standards we live quite close! :-D Leipzig is a nice town, and it has the Deutsche Zentralbücherei für Blinde (DZB) - now that is a place where I would love to work. :-D
I have been welcomed very friendly here, and I learn a lot every day browsing through old threads. Thank you for you welcome, too, feels good to have someone "close by". ;-)

Thank you! Ah, the land of lovely harps and very cool music... Indeed, have you ever been? *sobs silently* Alas, no. But the Irish have obviously always been enthusiastic travelers (back to the times when they brought us Christianity and beyond), so I have been able to listen to Irish people making live-music here from time to time. ;-)
And who knows, maybe I'll find the time someday... and a suitcase big enough to bring back a "small sister" for my concert-harp.

I'm impressed with your knowledge of Ireland! Hope you get to visit someday.

:-D No knowledge at all, unfortunately. Nothing substantial, just crumbs. But only yesterday I talked to a co-volunteer with whom I was working, and we cracked superficially the theme of Hiberno-Scottish mission (which generated from Ireland). Yes, I'd really like to visit someday - the few Irish persons I met were mostly great, the cooking sounds interesting, the pictures are beautiful ... *dreaming*
