Hey everyone, I'm Juan, 22. I'm recovering from a random flare up in my spinal cord (C3-T1 incomplete) last year that almost took my life. I feel grateful to be walking and doing more things independently but I'm still not done recovering and I'm hoping it will only get better. Coping has been relatively easy since I see this more as a challenge rather than a finish line. However social isolation has been taking a toll on me and adaptation is difficult because I'm constantly finding new things about myself and my body again. I'm here hoping there's someone out there in the LA area I can make a connection with. However new friends from new places are always welcome.

Welcome to the board. There are lots of Cali people here, don’t know if in the LA area though.

So I just saw this post. First off, welcome to the board. I do have a question already, when you say "flare up" in your Spinal Cord, what does that mean? Is this an illness you are dealing with or was this an accident related SCI?

Is this an illness you are dealing with or was this an accident related SCI? Not totally sure. They diagnosed me with Transverse Myelitis. Which is just a symptom. I had plasmaphereses treatment then steroids done. It was something autoimmune but they couldn't put a name on it. I pretty much woke up with weakness in my arms and legs one morning and within four hours i was paralyzed.
