Ah yes, the OTHER 'F' word. Mind you, in a way, one colliqual term we have for the item in question could sound much worse though not as bad as 'fanny' depending on the person's distance into the gutter. A 'bumbag' if you will. Right, carry on. This is turning into something else only known by us in the UK ‘Carry On.........PD’ 🤣

I’ve been thinking about you guys in chairs & how you feel about that piece of equipment that is a vital element in your life. I daresay how you answer will depend upon several things; your individual disability, whether that disability is congenital or acquired, the severity of your disability & of course most importantly your personality. * How do you view your chair? Do you see it merely as a functional tool that enables you to mobilise or as an extension of yourself? * Does your chair define you in any way & if so, how? * How often are you out of your chair & for how long? When out of it do you feel a sense of freedom or one of isolation? * How would you explain your relationship with your chair? Do you love the way it liberates you but hate that it’s a necessity or are you indifferent to it? Thanks again guys. • I definitely see it as a tool. I see people with stickers or light-up wheels on theirs and it kind of drives me nuts. All my chairs through the years have been basic black with no adornments. • Define me? No. Is it a huge influence on how I live my life? Absolutely. I'm a C5 quad and lead an active outdoor life for work and pleasure. I see quads of my level struggling to push themselves on a sidewalk in a manual chair and I just shake my head. I could never limit myself like that. I needed even more freedom so I recently got an off-road beast for work. I'll post pictures when I get it sorted out (adjustments and EZLock for driving my van). • The only time I'm out of my chair is when I'm in bed so 7-8 hours. I actually hate lying in bed because I feel trapped so there's no TV watching or reading or anything like that. I go to bed for only two reasons. • Indifferent. I'm thankful that I have the freedom it affords me but it's not something I ever think about.

Oh what was I thinking? 🙄 In the UK ‘*****’ is a slang word for a lady’s private parts. How embarrassed do I feel writing that? 😳 I always thought "fanny" referred to the booty, not the bits in front! Consider me educated...but I'm still calling those super-stylish wearable pouches "fanny packs"

Ah yes, the OTHER 'F' word. Mind you, I was once falsley accused of being as a homophobe for championing my local foodstuff known as a 'faggot', a large pork-based meatball often served with grey peas and bacon. Thinking about it, there's something inherently dirty sounding about Toad-In-The-Hole too. Right, carry on. On a similar note, I always chuckle at this one.

Hey there @mrniceguy, So your chair is a tool & definitely not to be confused as part of you or even an extension as you don’t go for personalisation. It doesn’t define you so no definition but again there’s acceptance & your chair allows you to both work & play & that’s it’s function pure & simple. The feeling of being trapped when in bed is totally understandable but then so are the only two reasons to go there 😉 Your indifference to your chair is so obviously apparent in your writing & I thank you for your comments.

I have been I'm my chair since 2006. I feel as if my chair is more of an island and I'm in the middle of a ocean. I do not dislike my chair but I do not feel like it is part of me. If it was not for my chair i would be completely bedridden so i am not ungrateful. I practically live in my chair so I'm in my chair at least 12 16 hours a day.

Hello there paruumotto, The way you describe your chair as ‘an island’ with you being ‘in the middle of an ocean’ is very moving. It’s very visual but makes your feelings easy to relate to. As to not feeling it’s a part of you it’s not a new thing for you so it’s not obviously not a time factor. Thank you.

I hate my chair so much that I try to 'hide' it. I am C6 complete and could do with more support for my needs i.e. balance etc but I have this 'thing' stripped down...no arm rests, low back, too narrow so that my body stands out more than it, brakes hidden under the seat etc. When I am put to bed, I have this thing removed from my bedroom. I'm 34 yrs post injury and still can't stand the sight of it, I avoid mirrors as I hate my reflection. It is a government issue as I refuse to buy one, I'd rather donate money to charity than pay a private company and buy a more suitable light weight one. It's not the most hygienic either as I refuse to clean or have it cleaned. Hey folks, sorry if I'm coming across as a miserable so and so, I actually am a joyful happy bunny most the time, I just hate this thing. Michael x At least you are honest and straightforward! Thank you raindrop xx
