Hi Linda. I am a C-5 quad and I have learned how to manage my spastisity with stretching and triggering different spasms at different times of the day to relieve the tension. My best advice for your friend since he is relatively new to his SCI is to try to learn and understand how his body reacts to different things such as weather, food, positioning, stretching, medication, etc. I do agree with Wonk that ejaculation will get rid of a majority of my spasms for 1-2 hours. Alcohol will also take them away to an extent, but it can make it more difficult if you rely on your spasms and/or tone to do transfers...like me I also noticed that some pain meds like hydrocodone do get rid of the spasms, but they also impaired my ability to process things which I didn't like. And I'm not a fan of gloves at all. I have grippy push rim covers and I tend to lick the palms of my hands to grab just about anything. Best of luck!
