I watched Once upon a time in Hollywood a couple of nights ago and was pretty happy with it. If you like Quentin Tarantino you won't be disappointed. Leonardo DiCaprio is pure gold if you ask me.

I recently saw the movie 'The Fundamentals of Caring' on Netflix. It's about the relationship between a new caregiver Ben (played by Paul Rudd) and a young client called Trevor. Has anyone seen it? And what are your thoughts on it? ^.^ As someone with the same disability portrayed in the movie, I have mixed feelings about it. I didn't love some of the pranks Trevor played on his caregiver as I didn't feel that they would happen in real life. I did like Trevor’s sardonic humor as I am pretty sardonic myself, and I did like the premise. I think it's important to have more movies about disability but I felt like the movie exaggerated a lot of things and somewhat misleads the viewers because of that. I saw that movie quite a while ago and I liked it a lot. I really enjoy these types of movies, where all the characters are sort of regular people and it's all rather low-key and not overly dramatic, despite the fact that they have really rough things to deal with (as, if I remember correctly, most of these characters do). Having no knowledge at all about Trevor's disability in the movie, I of course couldn't notice anything that was misleading. I'd be curious what the movie exaggerated? A movie I saw recently and really liked was "Le mystère Henri Pick". It's a French movie about a mysterious manuscript. A young literary agent discovers it at a small village library, which has a section called "the library of rejected books", where people can bring their rejected manuscripts. The manuscript was written by Henri Pick, a pizza baker who barely read and died a few years earlier. It gets published and becomes a huge hit. One literary critic doesn't believe in Henri Pick's authorship of the manuscript and decides to investigate. I found it really funny, suspenseful and even a little heart-warming. Especially enjoyable for people who like to read and write!

I'm definitely watching that one, too. Tarantino has always made decent movies in the last years. He's one of the few American directors who still does his own thing. I really liked The Hateful 8, as well. DiCaprio plays great since Catch Me If You Can and never stops getting better!

Leo DiCaprio is brilliant in every film he's in, even if the films themselves (The Man in The Iron Mask, Titanic) were awful.
Why he never won an Oscar for 'What's Eating Gilbert Grape?' we'll never know.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is worth all it's praise too. Heck, I could watch a whole series featuring Rick and Cliff.
Likewise with Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc from Knives Out. Some film characters just really stand out.

I just watched “Once Upon a Time in the West.” Not “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” I thought it was pretty good being the only Western I’ve ever really watched, it definitely was not a linear story but the characters were enjoyable. It was definitely a movie of the late 60s with its portrayal of the main woman in the story. I think the best part of it for me was the music, Ennio Morricone is amazing!

And yes, Ennio Morricone's soundtrack is definitely the highlight of the whole movie.
Since you liked this movie so much, I would definitely advise you to watch
The Good The Bad And The Ugly, too.
For me one of the best movies with Clint Eastwood and my absolute favorite! Also the performance of Eli Wallach is absolutely worth seeing. Morricone contributed the soundtrack again and even topped himself!
If you enjoy seeing Claudia Cardinale, I can recommend The Prrofessionals.
In it she also plays a tough character and the movie generally very well made.
Finally one last tip from me:
The Quick And The Dead with Sharon stone.
It definitely fits into the category of western with tough women. By the way, the movie is packed with famous stars, that it could hardly be better.
I really like it, too.
Take a look if you like.

@baresqueezelover83 thanks for all the suggestions! I’ll have to add them to my list of “to be watched.” zacc, my pleasure! I'm always happy when I see that someone besides myself is also interested in older movies. Take your time. My lists are usually pretty long, too.
You can share your critics with me if you want.

You can share your critics with me if you want. Yeah I like older movies, I’m just a big movie fan all around. I have a list on IMDb of some of my favorites. It’s always growing. If you wanna check it out, it’s here: www.imdb.com/list/ls063651746

Even if many of today's movies are too hectically filmed for me, there are always pearls to be found. Oh, yes, I absolutely want to. Thank you!

Watched Marriage Story last night with my hubby. Probs not the best choice for Valentines day but was a sad, poignant portrayal of a marriage and its ending. I would definitely recommend it.

I have no idea when or even if this film will be released uncut in Germany. But I have to find a way to watch it! Apparently it's damn close to the 80s and 90s action movies...Then there's "Can't You See" by The Marshall Tucker Band as soundtrack. And Hilary Swank is in it: They got me!

Been on a bit of a Batman kick as of late, currently watching Returns, easily a favourite.
And I'll admit, Robert Pattison has grown leaps and bounds as an actor and I have a lot of faith in him taking on the role.
Keaton and Conroy tie as my favourite Batmen.
Birds of Prey is also a lot of fun and is what Suicide Squad should've been. Ewan McGregor's Black Mask was wonderfully campy.
What? Don't laugh at me!

hope I am not necro-ing this thread! i figured it would be good to bring up to speed alongside the more active music thread.
i recently watched the souvenir - a24 has had a string of excellent films in the past two years - and thought it was superb. it seems like such a common genre of film to focus on these coming of age stories of young male creative workers yet we are rarely treated to the same perspective from women artists, especially those in the thrall of a relationship with a much older man as is the case in this story. I loved the hazy cinematography, the depiction of a somewhat underground cultural scene in thatcher's england, and the cloistered nature of the story.
it resonated a lot with me (despite being a rather formalistic mode of storytelling), as did the main character's feeling of being subsumed by a more volatile and maladaptive older partner. I wish it had gotten more praise and recognition along the lines of the farewell or even moonlight.
