@zacc Amelie has some kind of suspense, I think Audrey Tautou did a great job. I watched it to learn French, but I relied mostly on the subtitles. Are you a native French speaker? Do you like French film? I watched a lot of French films. I watched Les Amants by Louis Malle too many times Yeah, I’m a native French speaker or at least a fluent speaker, and Audrey Tautou was great, she seemed perfect for the role. And I like French film a lot, another favorite of mine being “Three Colors: Blue” although I haven’t seen it in a while. I don’t know if I’ve seen “Les Amants” though. I guess I should check it out. What other French movies do you like?

My answer is this: This is maybe my favorite movie of all time with my favorite soundtrack of all time. I forget about it for a while but it always cheers me up when I return to it. It's also pretty melancholic for me, reminds me of being a child and visiting my father in France. I would go in the summer and into the fall, going to school there for a couple months or so. There's nothing like summer in Provence, France, such a beautiful country but incredibly inaccessible for electric wheelchairs. I haven't been able to return for a quite a while due to how inaccessible planes are. So I guess this movie and soundtrack is a mixed bag for me. But it really does cheer me up. That entire soundtrack is gorgeous! Comptine d'un autre été is probably my favourite

I guess I shouldn't complain, I could have turned out much worse! A horse is of course and never the worse For wear as the hare who keepeth aware Of her wish that I dish between bread some fish Or a bird whose lone word is all that we've heard These last weeks, served with leeks, and like cleverest Greeks Bring the gifts and tide shifts and launching of ships To conclude when they intrude per Ithacan shrewd Who endorsed but one course: Troy for a horse. Okay good night. (Quoting Nate) Nate, you’re a genius!!!! Same here! Made my day!!! 🤗🤗🤗

Oh, YES! Thank you for mentioning it, it is one of my favorite films of all times, as well! I also find Juliette Binoche one of the best actresses of today.
And there is this very interesting quote from this movie: " Damaged people are dangerous. They know they can survive."

We have this weekly paper in Germany called „Die Zeit“ which I like a lot, and the first page I read every time is the one where they have a funny animal picture under the headline „You look the way I feel“ But even more important the part with the title „What enriches my life“ where readers share the little special moments that make life so beautiful. „To get passionately kissed unexpectedly at the age of 41 that it pulls away the ground under the feet. As if it was the first time.“ Or the story of a man who stays with a young man during the moment of his death, holding his hand, telling him softly how they would be walking together over a flower meadow, describing the river that flows by the edge of the meadow, the bridge that leads over the river, to the meadow on the other side of the bridge. „I can come with you to the shore, but not over the bridge“, he said. Lets the hand go and the heart had stopped beating. Simple truthful moments of love. Attachment Deleted

Associations!!! Throughout my day, I come across several things or little moments that I can connect to some kind of beauty, let it be a scene from a movie, books, art or simply a beautiful moment of humanity in life. I kind of live in my own phantasy world of beauty. And I love it! Just this morning in the bathroom. Who else sees Michelangelo in this?

... simply a beautiful moment of humanity in life... I can SO relate to this, again!
I was driving through a very poor part of my hometown and when I saw this, it struck me. Although shanty, it is someone's home and people living there are still joyful about approaching holidays, with Christmas wreath on the entrance door....

That’s exactly what I mean! Life is so full of love and beauty if you only open your eyes and heart to see it.

Reconnecting with old friends that you haven’t talked to in a couple years!

^This.
And to expand on that, having such a good dynamic with those friends that it seems like you never lost touch in the first place.
On a similiar note, I've finally secured a new, far more healthy and stairless place to live to move into within the new year (so once the utilities are all set up, I'll be here more regularly instead of dropping in, trying to make a post and giving up after irrationally worrying "who'd care?").
So I'm cheered up by the fact that I'm able to take another step forward after a difficult couple of years.
Settled into a new job, new home on the way...for the first time in a while, I'm actually happy rather than lying through my teeth about how I feel.

Bumping this thread shamelessly to say that now I've settled into my new place, I've cheered up immensly.
I feel relaxed, I feel secure and I'm eating properly again. I've not cooked properly in over a year.
An unsuitable kitchen in the last place I lived in meant I'd been living out of a microwave for 18 months.
But now I've rediscovered the joy of cooking and just how relaxing and healthy it can be.
Just been doing simple things to ease me into it but there's so much I want to make and try.
Meatloaf being one, we don't really have it over here but I've long been intrigued by it.

Amazing how changing one aspect of our lives can improve so many other parts of it.
