I remember when I was a kid, I went in for a surgery, and this was like in the 80s or 90s so they probably use different drugs by now, but I remember having the trippiest dream ever. I was in this brightly colored jungle, like orange-yellow skies, purple plants, red clouds, and all these animals were talking to me, like purple lions and elephants, giraffes, whatever. It was messed up.

Much like you, I never tried a drug that had the potential to kill me in large quantities. Edibles are the closest I’ve ever came to being convinced I was about to die, and I’ll never do them again. I was high, but also fully aware my heart rate was at 160 and I could feel my organs starting to get this massive pressure around them. I dealt with that for about 5 hours straight and at some point I fell asleep for 13 hours and when I woke up and realized I was still alive, that was enough for me to stick to just weed

I was going to suggest having some THC edibles, because you only live once, man! I haven't had psychedelics yet either, but it's on my bucket list. I have heard that mushrooms are really "gentle" and fun and more natural, less likely to provoke a bad response. Providing you don't barf, of course. I have enjoyed watching a lot of people talking about their near death experiences on YouTube..

There's an excellent series called Hamilton's Pharmacopeia on this type of stuff. It was on Hulu or Vice. He takes everything and films it.
DMT, which is harvested from the mimosa tree, is known as the God chemical because it supposedly mimics the experience in your brain at the moment of death. I haven't tried it.
I have done shrooms and acid in various quantities, from a day long journey to microdosing at the office, I've never had a true Out of Body experience. Supposedly you can stimulate these with certain auditory frequencies, there is an institute in Virginia dedicated to it.
Those drugs did reaffirm my love for Dylan and gave me the longest, most memorable shower of my life. YMMV.

Psychedelic mushrooms in my opinion taste like a combination of dirt and what is clearly poison if you mean "natural" in that sense. I have put them in chocolate and on pizza but I think capsules are the way to go because they're really pretty disgusting and definitely hard to keep down. After that mushroom pizza we went to see the Johnny Depp Willy Wonka in the theater (which tells you how old I'm getting I guess). When that giant pink seahorse boat came zooming out of the screen we screamed and squealed and collapsed in giggles. If you are into high grade edibles I highly recommend Dank Tank out of Cali. I'm sure they'll know who sent ya 😉

I can't handle ANY of this stuff, that sense of detachment and unreality (or hyper-reality) is terrifying. I had a bad experience with pure THC edibles last year and it honestly messed me up for months. I had had THC/CBD joints and vapes prior to that without issue, but just the psychoactive element alone was a huuuuge no-no. So, I've sworn off weed altogether and you won't catch me trying to bend my brain with anything else either!

I can handle the flower through a pipe because the very moment I feel like I’m where I wanna be, I can stop and that’s the peak of where I’m gonna go. (There May be a brief 10-15 minute window where reality is extremely questionable, but it slowly drains). That said, edibles were the absolute worst experience of my life and I’ll go cold turkey before I ever go down that rabbit hole again. I was sitting there processing that I was about to die and unlike all the times I just thought I was tripping in my head, those times it was a very strong chance of occurring. I want to always be in control of my faculties. It’s also why I gave up drinking a decade ago. That and hangovers always hang on to me.

I had the same exact experience, felt like I died at least once, the music I was listening to felt like it was melting, and I could feel every one of my muscles burning a. Not fun, especially being alone for a large part of it. I'd rather avoid feeling like I'm going to die again. I tried vaping recently though and it was fine, very relaxing. I weirdly still want to do mushrooms, I had a little bit of some once and it was pretty nice.

Whoa dude, that's trippy! I'm not sure I would consider that a near death experience necessarily, but it's certainly an out-of-body kind of one. I can't go in for surgeries anymore, but I have two titanium metal rods in my back, parallel to each other in the L5 region of my spine, which were placed for scoliosis corrective surgery in the summer of 2000. No wonder I'm a metalhead, haha.
Anyhow, here's the dealio. Actually, the first attempt at the surgical procedure done in May 2000 by my orthopedic surgeon was a snafu for two reasons: first, while on anesthesia, apparently the anesthesiologist had intubated me through my mouth in such a forceful way that one of my loose teeth got knocked out, and second, a muscle relaxant used in conjunction with anesthesia collapsed every muscle in my body! While this was happening, I was totally unaware of it, imagining myself floating in the cosmos, until I luckily woke up with terrible pain in my throat due to all the tubing having scraped my throat as it was being removed. Somehow, I recovered from that.
The next time around, in late June 2000, was a success. This time, I was intubated through my nose and a less potent muscle relaxant was used. Btw, before going under anesthesia this time, one of the doctors in the OR played the song "Maria Maria" by Santana featuring The Product G&B to help me drift off to sleep. I was flying through dozens of lights, and sooner or later, awake but not in as much agonizing pain like in the first attempted surgery.

So I have never had the chance to take psychedelics like dmt, shrooms, or anything of the sort recreationally and probably never will because I honestly think it would kill me from increased heart rate due to my high blood pressure. But the closest thing I've had was ketamine for anesthetic purposes (bonus hallucinogenic purpose hahaha) the last time I had surgery for a g-tube to supplement my weight gain. I think surgical procedures will be the only times ill get to experience drugs with hallucinogenic effects safely because of course your closely monitored to make sure you have the right dose. I was half awake but the experience was so surreal and almost frightening but calming at the same time. The effects came quickly and I felt an immediate detachment from what was going on around me. It's hard to explain but my perception of light was brighter and my hearing was slower. It was almost an out of body feeling if that makes sense. I do remember being able to speak though cause the surgeon asked me mid procedure if I wanted to listen to music and of course I said yes and requested some good ol' bob marley lmao. Now ketamine probably isnt as strong as other psychedelic drugs but the experience left me with the question of are drugs with hallucinogenic effects the closest thing to death? There's probably a chemical explanation for this but I wouldn't know. Maybe those of you who have taken psychedelics have had this same thought and have an opinion on it? I’ve sat with Ayahuasca in ceremony twice (smoking Dmt during ceremony as well) and my second experience I witnessed my own death so profoundly that I was told that now is not my time to fuck around with ANY drugs - my life is too important to many still. I’d be happy to dive into my experiences deeper, but otherwise I smoke only extremely minimal amounts of cbd for medicinal purposes and ayahuasca has been my only experience. I have, and have had, access to lots of Psilocybin and various psychedelic drugs throughout my life but have chosen not to partake 🤷♀️

I've never had an out-of-body experience, but I've seen the weirdest stuff with Oxycodone or Percocet, don't remember which one it was. I didn't like those hallucinations at all and stopped taking the meds. This was after a procedure in the hospital. I stuck it out with high-dose Ibuprofen then.
I have completely freaked out with edibles before, and it wasn't a good experience either. I spent half a concert in the medical/first aid station, which was kind of fun, I guess because I saw some interesting stuff. I couldn't go back to our regular seats because they were in the nosebleed section, and I freaked out. So the only good thing that came out of that stunt was that we got basically front-row seats for the main part of the concert. I only missed the two warm-up bands.

I'm kidding, everyone's brain is different. This thread got wild. I'm all for brain bending but not ready to witness my own death.

No near death experiences, I’m really careful about dosage. I like to go backpacking on shrooms, colors are so vibrant and it makes the trip much more fun! Only “bad” experience was from MDMA. it’s great during but the comedown was pretty bad. I’ve never hallucinated from anything, but it’s interesting to see what other people have experienced doing similar stuff.

Never really had any such near death experiences in my life yet.
But I'd like to try DMT one day (if it becomes legal) or maybe go to Peru and have an Ayahuasca tea with the proper ritual and all, full experience.
It's one thing in my bucket list.

Penis Envy strain. One of the most powerful mushroom strains. 3.5 grams dried, ground up, steeped in hot water for twenty minutes. Down the hatch. You have about ten minutes before it hits. This is for a very powerful session. Warn your trip buddy. It isn't near death. Its your personality being left behind. I remember thinking to the pretty lights in my mind and the elves whispering in my ears. "I'm stuck down here in this broken body."....and something felt like it went..."well, get up here.".
If there is a connection between the quantum realm and our minds? That's it. I let out a "ohhhh." And I danced in the energy no lie. The thing is....I had problems when I came back. This is where your trip buddy comes in. I found myself awake, in my chair at my computer desk with it on. I SHUT THAT SHIT OFF. I was wheeling back and forth between my pc desk, bathroom, bedroom. Literally "reestablishing" myself in my own body. The first time "Am I dead? If I opened my door would I see a black universe creeping towards my apartment." Sounds scary. I know. But once you do it...it becomes less scary.
I do about four trips a year, keeps the brain juicy.
