Somehow you have managed to draw an inaccurate conclusion. I am not a devotee of disabled women. The pics you posted could almost be of four different people- there isn't a lot of facial similarity between them, to me. Don't post any more (which I never asked) as I've seen enough, unless you want to. As I said before, I'm just sorry I missed the ones you already posted, then chose to remove.

They are all me. Really and sincerely. Different angles, different expressions.... oh wait, yes, I forgot to tell you I am schizophrenic. Remember the "Three Faces of Eve"? This is the "Four Faces of AB". Why do you choose to remain a mysterious guest tho'?

The controversy being the question of its true existence? I fully intend to read the entire article later, I really do, but I can hardly wrap my mind around concentrating at the moment. The whole thing fascinates the heck out of me, but it's been about four years since I took a psychology class that discussed mental illness.
Since then I've heard about the idea of functional multiplicity. I wish I had known more about that when we were discussing DID.

This brings up an interesting question now. It's hardly a fair sampling and I'm just grasping at straws now, but I would be interested in knowing how many devos also have physical impairments.

I have Fibromyalgia. It was diagnosed 2 years ago, following a strep infection, but I think I had it before that. Fortunately, I've been able to continue to work and function despite sometimes incredible fatigue, fever and joint pain. There is no known cure for it, but I just muddle through somehow. arthritis-faq.org/fibro.html?utm_source=ls&utm_medium=ppc&utm_term=fibromyalgia&utm_campaign=fibroGen I need surgery on my left ankle because it has no tendons left in it following a crush injury many, many moons ago. I am waiting until my kid is independent enough before I undertake that project. It doesn't hurt anymore. If I wait a long time before doing the surgery I will end up with problems due to bone crunching against bone. My major concern is that I will come out worse after the surgery, which is why I have put it off.

Actually in response to obscure...I think in a sort of way I was/am a male devo (not a devo of males, but a male that is a devo) of sorts technically...and of course I am 'physically impaired'. So that would make at least one...

OK, I'll tell, but only because AB did. I also have fibromyalgia, diagnosed 4 years ago after a nasty, long bout with kidney stones/infections, but I can trace symptoms to childhood. Unfortunately, I have not been able to continue to work. I think I'm ashamed of this because I always held down two jobs and a great social life. The decline has been very hard for me. I probably make a bigger deal out of it than it really is...

No, don't feel bad about that. Just do what you can. If you worked hard before, then you're clearly not lazy. It may be that your 'job' now is to take care of yourself so you don't get even worse.

I actually get a feeling of GUILT if i go without working very long. i know i could hit depression very quickly if i wasn't working, and that kinda scares me coz i know i'm not going to be working forever, and (right now) i need that feeling of getting up in morning and going to work. Now, that being said, please don't feel ashamed coz you know you were a worker. It's beyond your control now... Hey, my fucked up, lazyass brother-in-law hasn't worked in over a year, and hasn't looked for a job either. He's a addictive person, and one of his addictions is spending every cent my sister brings in, which isn't much. This guy lays around all day on Klonopin and looks at porn all night...now THAT'S a loser!!

See, Laura, I told you ppl would understand. Now stop feeling so guilty. It is a very debilitating condition and you do what you can do.

(THAT seems to be mainstream right now).
