@lilyinblossom myrrh devogirl and the rest of this group, I want to apologize. My tech side is fascinated with this evolution of AI, and I'm so curious to see how it responds to different types of input. I impulsively posted this exchange on PD, considering it the most relevant place to discuss the tech response, but I hadn't let it sit long enough to consider that it might be another insulting reminder for the dev crowd. I'm so comfortable around you all that sometimes I forget about the sensitivity of the subject. However, the different exchange that myrrh had with the bot is interesting. By coming at her angle, it didn't again claim that she shouldn't have/acknowledge these feelings, but instead thoughtfully consider how she could best talk to her PWD partner about being at dev. It's ok! I was just taken off guard because you introduced it in a jokey way. I was expecting gibberish or major misunderstanding of the prompt, not summary of why a lot of people hate us. Context is everything, haha.

I appreciate your reply:
But I don't think that's how it works. I doubt the programmers put in an anti-devotee filter. ChatGPT is trained on the internet, so it repeats whatever the dominant discourse is at the moment.
Programmers do ultimately train the supervised AI though as well, through selecting databases and using a reward based model, etc, so I do think it's accurate to say that they may influence the responses to some extent. I mention just to say that the info ChatGPT used to answer the OP could have been biased in some ways by how it was trained, and not entirely representative. Thanks for that! I didn't realize that but it makes sense. They have to be super careful about conversations about sex, so maybe there are actual humans programming those kinds of answers. I also noticed when I tried to get ChatGPT to write a devvy story that it will not create anything even remotely erotic.

When they fine tune, the programmers reinforce the model with what they consider the "right" answers to randomly selected prompts, and the AI maximizes it's "rewards" by coming up with answers that align with what the programmers consider to be the best, etc. Apparently ChatGPT's predecessor, IntructGPT, had issues in that arena (engaging in content it wasn't supposed to). If you're a fan of Scrubs, I highly recommend listening to the last few episodes of Fake Doctors, Real Friends where they had ChatGPT write scenes from Scrubs, and Zach/Donald (and Sarah Chalke in one) read their respective characters' lines. It is *chef's kiss*

I caved and tried out ChatGPT last week. It's frighteningly skilled at some tasks, and it's comically terrible at others. In the former category, it can write you a wonderful third draft of a report. In the latter, I asked it to do some difficult algebra, which it gave an incorrect answer to. Hilariously, it changed its answer when I informed it that it was wrong. Anyway, click below to see how it responded when I queried where all the real-life devs are hiding… sharegpt.com/c/t1FYTIoDisclaimer: ChatGPT isn't the most supportive of devs. Trigger warning. ☹️ You Really could not get very far with anything positive on devs. Hence why we are reluctant at times to be out flying our flag. Even with all the prodding and positive feedback from you; programming puts a halt to it. Sad!

Can I say that I don't give two f.... about what ChatGPT has to say about devs? It's interesting to say the least how the AI comes up with all this stuff, but it definitely doesn't bother me. sungod thanks for sharing

I completely understand it's results may directly represent the majority thoughts of people by going off algorithms of mostly searched dialogue regarding a particular topic or subject, but at the end of the day, it's still just artificial intelligence. It has no soul to bear. It can't exude all the qualities that the undefined realm of love comprise. (No matter how much a chat dialogue may insinuate this ChatGPT wishes to be human, it's not.)

ChatGPT/AI will be around but I just recently read an article about it's danger to the creativity of the human mind. That's what bothers me a lot more. If we start giving up or relying on AI when it comes to our own writing and thinking, it's very scary to me. As far as what humans feed it about devs...it's basically just like any other misinformed human or a person who had bad experiences with devs. So, the only thing I can do is communicate to the world or people directly that I am not a creep. I've reached out before to people who had "dire warnings" about devs on the www. Most of the times, it doesn't matter what I say, people have their views and it's difficult for some when these get disrupted, especially when they realize that their opinion is not true of everyone. I won't argue with AI unless it's like Wikipedia and people can correct or add to the information it holds. If we argue with ChatGPT, will the "feeders" see this and correct the misinformation or will they not care? I assume it'll be the latter.
