Volunteering

the other night i got a call from this organisation called sporting wheelies asking for either donations or volunteers. i really want to help out becuase i had a peek at their website and there are some fine looking men there. i wouldn't be doing this just to get my dev on but to help out as well. have any of you ever volunteered or been to one of this sport events? should i do it? i would really like to hear some suggestions.

YES, do it. I have volunteered, not at sporting events, but other things. I honestly didn't want to do it because of all my issues (devness, BIID) and feeling guilty about everything. But I was kind of roped into it: wheelers who know me as a fellow wheeler saying "Hey Claire, come do this with us", and how can you refuse? So I did, and it turned out FINE. It was fun and, hey, they NEED you!

I just volunteered at a wheelchair basketball cup this weekend, and I think I had the best time of my life ;D

I had my doubts, specially about how "morally right" it was but, I don't know if it was because I wasn't feeling too well, my dev side didn't show at all. Well, I did look at some of the guys and really enjoyed it, but so did most of my classmates, and they're definitely not devs! It was actually hilarious, because some of the players could walk and those weren't getting any attention *laughs*

I admit it was easy for me because my classmates were there, although only one of them knows about my feelings towards disabled guys... but the atmosphere was great, and it was easy to make friends. Seriously, all of us are looking for something like this to do again (sadly, we ended up hating the local team, so it's going to be hard). I think I might even have found somebody to come with me to the paralympic games!

Again, do it. They asked, you already have an excuse to be there (somehow this was essential to me), and you've got nothing to lose.

Do it! As long as you're not acting stalkerish (and I'm sure you won't be) there's no reason not to. They need volunteers, you're highly motivated, it's win-win.

Go on Alice! and I agree with all the advise from the girls here. But (sorry, I always have to play the devil's advocate) - as you quite happy for the guys/organisation to know you're a dev? Reason I ask is, there may be some guys on this site from sporting wheelies, and you do have your photo up...If you are comfortable, then great! I might even get to meet you at some point

Isabelle- very good point, no i really would not like them to know i am a dev unless they are open to it, and probally then on the site. maybe i should change my photo back, i am really bad with the whole internet privacy thing. when you said that we might even get to meet does that mean that you live in Australia?? because that would be awsome.

Hi Alice, yes, I am in Australia...and the reason why I said we may meet at some point (if you decided to pursue sporting wheelies) is because I tag along with my partner to some interstate events And I do agree that some of the guys look mighty fine LOL
