This is the only pic I could find of my car, it's a 2001 Ford Focus and it's the only car I've ever had.

Emma: that must suck, going from the WRX to a Prius....... Did you see the 44 mpg Matisse? That makes it not suck so much and is the reason I made the switch. The WRX needed 91/93 octane fuel which is pricey.

Matisse - That Ferrari belongs to my very eccentric neighbor. He used to drive his English Sheepdog, Cromwell, the quarter mile to our house to have "playdates" with our dog in that car. Emma - I hear you on the gas mileage! My daily driver is a hyundai accent now, and while I love the mileage (and regular old 87!), I still want to smash something when I try to merge.

It's all either small or really large cars in here. I drive a sedan, I looooove a good sedan. 1995 Nissan Maxima Executive. Only a couple of thousand of this particular model made, it's rare to see another on the road when you're driving about. For a car that currently has a turbo residing in it, it's still quite economical. In Adelaide, there are laws against drivers under 25 driving high powered vehicles, but it was altered well by the guy I bought it from. It looks pretty much like a normal family sedan. When you start it up though, that noise is just faaabulous. My alternator conked out on Wednesday night, had to have the poor thing towed and the alternator needed replacing. Cost me $700, not a pleasant out of pocket amount. It'd been playing up for a while, I could hear it in the mornings when I started the car but I was hoping it'd last a few more months before I had to replace it. The only thing I don't like is that the car needs 98 Premium Fuel, and that's expensive. If it ran well on 91 or even 95 it'd be a lot cheaper to fill it up every week. I've had to use 91 in it before and it didn't like it at all. Picture time!

Thats very cool A. My brother had a 96 Maxima sport and LOVED it. So yours has the turbo still functioning but cops can't tell from the looks of the car? Clearly your fuel octane is different from ours.....we have 93, 91, 89 and 87 octane available. When my Subaru WRX needed 91 (or 93) I was paying the high price.

Turbo still functions and no one can tell unless they decide to challenge me to taking off from a stoplight

So I took my Hyundai in the other week to have an SES code read... They hooked it up, ran some diagnostics, brought it back. I asked what was wrong with it, and the mechanic said, "Oh, the light was on, but we fixed it." Blink. "Yes, but what was WRONG with it?" "We have a program we run when that light goes on, so we did that." Blink."Ok, so what was the problem?" "It's fine now, the program fixed it." "...WHAT DID THE PROGRAM DO??" "It turned the light off!" "Right. Got that part..." AHHHH! Clearly the magic computer fixes all.

Wow. The problem was that the problem light was on? This sounds like something straight out of Catch-22

I think this a case of the mechanic treating you like a woman who knows nothing about cars.
