You seem to have a lot of movement in your arms, can I ask why you're in an electric wheelchair?

Nah, I meant why did you choose that over a manual?

Thank you ladies!!! When do I get do a dev shoot??? Pariah, is your login indicative of your attitude or social status? I may be a bit defensive but my Omega Trac has been great to me! I own a manual chair that I use when traveling but theres NOTHING out there ive seen thats as tough as my baby

Just couldn't think of a name and I like the contrast of my login. I also like to hang on the fringes as opposed to the generic majority.
I just wanted to know your reasons for the electric as there are pros and cons for either. I use a manual, though they originally wanted me to go electric. I like to work myself but I guess at the sacrifice of some independence, but I'm wondering as time goes on and I age, will opt for the electric?

I meet older guys in power chairs all the time who ask me why I don't get a power chair and I tell them it would limit me. They are wider so you can't get into many places. You can't just hop in a friends car and throw your chair in the trunk. You're always dependent on batteries and if the electronics go bad you're in trouble. To me, it seems that a power chair steals independence.

Yeah but you look like a para and I am a c5 quad. So I understand your pros Wheelieincali, but I can't push up hills or in rough terrain etc. So, relying on people to push me as opposed to powering through myself is the independence lost. I guess I chose the manual (though advised not to) because I wanted to work myself and saw an electric chair as a backwards step.

Im so glad I have my powerchair! Not fitting in small places is a small price to pay for a machine that will pull my van and then some!

I'm with you alluringpariah, I like to push myself in every sense of the phrase. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) Sometimes I take the more difficult way just to keep myself on top of my game. I am a para, but I think I would use a manual chair if at all possible. I give props to quads who use a manual chair but I do see the other side. Why would we make our lives harder than they already are? Maybe I'm a masochist deep down. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

Yeah, I can see the pros and cons to both a powerchair and a manual. There's no good gym around here so pushing is sometimes my only form of excercise and the people I know who got into the powerchair immediately really ballooned out, though I guess working out in a gym and using a powerchair makes sense when looking to preserve your shoulders. It's a moot point for me anyway, as a powerchair financially unattainable.
