I have been a busy girl! I finished my collection of short stories, which include the ones available here as well as several new ones! www.ruthmadison.com/current-fiction/dev-dreams/It's on Lulu now and will be on Amazon soon. Kindle is still processing and it's available on Smashwords, which is all styles of ebooks. Sorry, Emma, no amputee story in this one, though I'm working on one for volume two! I am doing a happy dance right now, this is one of the best feelings ever ;D

My friends, what a difference a year makes! Less than a year, even.
A year ago I did not know a single other dev. I had no communication with anyone else like me. I charted a lonely course through my life, sending my essence into emptiness. A year ago I was afraid to Google the word "devotee" because I was so scarred by what I had seen ten years ago the first time I did. A year ago, Emma went looking for information about me and found almost nothing.
Now I ahve a gorgeous website designed and sponsered by E. Now when you Google "devoteeism" it is mostly positive messages that come up. Now I have people who understand me.
I thank Elizabeth and Stewart for badgering me into telling their story, which led me to find friends, to find others like me.
These new stories are characters who live because of you. Many of them have been dormant in notebooks for years because they had no one to share themselves with. Now, I know they will be welcomed into the world.
Thank you, my friends. It is an honor to know you.

Ruth I LOVED what you wrote and totally understand where you are coming from. I joined the board a few months before you (last August I think) and cannot believe how much being here has changed my life as a dev.
Oh and Ruth I think the word we need to be worried about on google searches is devotee, not devoteeism.

I think that's a good thing, we get buried in there! lol. I put a google alert on the word devotee and i get tons of messages about Hindu groups!

Oooh, new book? AWESOME! *Still needs to go read (W)hole. Is a slowpoke and a half at this* Hahaha! There's no time limit and no requirement (W)hole is peeling back the curtain and diving into the experience of being a devotee, being scared of it, hiding it from friends and family. The new book is some short love stories, most of them with non-dev characters. So, they're very different things! Depends on what reading experience you're looking for.
