I used to race Karts, until I had a big accident, it really sucks being a para and not being able to use an arm ( i would be a terrible quad) I broke my shoulder blade and 2 ribs, after that I only raced something with a cage or a roof. A couple of months ago a mate who is a para bought a quad bike, he used to race mx, I told him to buy an Odyssey or pilot or even something with a hyabusa motor in it, he told me I was old and need to shut up, unfortunately the next day he tipped it over going real slow and is now needing a second operation on his thumb. I don't mean to rain on your parade, and I probably wouldnt have listened (actually I am sure I didn't). But be careful. Do they have legends cars in the UK, this is what I ran when I was in the US My car on the left

Wonk, in the first picture... um, your car is attached to a snowplow? Or just a small wall? The door is open?

No, I didn’t win Inigo I don’t race, just a bit of fun with my mates who also have karts. I am very careful Wonk, I have had it a few years now and gone into the tyre wall a few times and I have seen some big crashes so I take a lot of care, thanks for the concern. I used to race mx so I do enjoy the odd scary moment that I get with the kart. I think we do have the legend cars here, did you race with hand controls with the karts and legends ? Or was it pre sci ?

Cool Brian. We went to a local indoor kart racing place a few weeks ago hoping to have one rigged so Marineamp could race. In an e-mail they said they probably could get something set up but sadly once we were there they didn't have any ideas and just left us to play around with the portable hand control we brought. Is your kart a regular one with just a hand control added? Do you have any advice how we could get one at a public place temporarily modified?

Hi Emma, I brought my hand controls from a company called biz a few years ago and after a bit of trial and error I got them working on a regular kart but they are permanently fitted. I know of a charity called kart force here in the UK for injured troops and they have their own type of hand control that is suitable for all types of injuries. I am sure they would be happy to help you . Good luck. www.kartforce.orgwww.bizkarts.com

Everything I have raced has been post SCI, although I was working on a rally car before my accident. The Legends had a fl350 odyssey steering wheel but I went to hydraulic cylinders on the steering wheel for brakes rather than a cable set up, also used a bike clutch setup attatched to the gearshift, although there are some awesome electric setups available now.
I will probably use one from guidosimplex for the hq I am building, not superfast but cheap to run and heaps of fun

I thought I would show you them racing at my home track, which I hope to be racing at in about 18 months time, probably the best track in the world. I need a national license to race there though which will take 12 months to get
When I was at school I used to run around here, no wonder I was fit

Nice one Wonk, You have a lot going on with your hands when racing, my kart is one gear and has a centrifugal clutch so I only have the brake and throttle to deal with.

Those karts look awesome! The only non-street car I've raced was an NHRA dragster....Really fun, but the flame suit was a torture device in the middle of August in Gainesville. But check out those headers! I want a set of those. On the hand controls - do you use the systems that install underneath the column?? I'm trying to figure out how to convert my Z, but there's just not enough room underneath the wheel. I've heard there are dash-mounted systems as well, but I've never seen one.
