It's 8pm Eastern Time, I think... because it normally starts around 7pm for me and I'm in the US Central Time Zone. And that IS a problem. It's an issue for anyone in Aus or NZ or Europe. Cursed geography! I won't be able to be there either, I'll be in Nebraska for work... but I'm not always there soooo.

Yeah, geography is hard. Guess I'll just have to start a splinter cell!

I think that's an excellent idea. I'm not sure where you are but we have several Aussies... and used to have someone in S Africa (Merry, where'd you go?)... and while I love having everyone sharing news and thoughts in one place I sure wouldn't get up at 3am to do this (like some of our European friends) and if it was happening at 9am my time I couldn't do it either. (Pesky job... always interfering with online and other life ) So, YEAH! Splinter cell!

Yes, it starts at 8 PM US Eastern time. Please do pick a second time for the chat. It was my idea originally to have 2 times for the chat, to accommodate different time zones, but no one took the initiative for the other half of the globe. Pick a time that works for you, announce it on the board, open a skype conference call, and people will come. But please note we decided to keep the book/movie club chats to devs only, no guys.

Hmmm, excellent, motivating advice! Looks like I might have some reading to do (I am currently obsessed with Game of Thrones...which incidentally does have a para, but he's 8, so, yeah)! I think Looking Up sounds really good... I'd be keen for any day between the 19th-22nd of this month, which, come to think of it is pretty soon. 7pm WST time for Australia (same as Singapore). If anyone else is, let me know...but no pressure either, there's always next month And the start time isn't set in stone, but the dates kind of are.

okay, so it sounds like many are up for a chat on the 26th. my suggestion would be to discuss one of the films posted recently for the meet up on the 26th and then plan for a book discussion of 'double take' in november. perhaps on wednesday november 23rd? this would give anyone who wants to participate in the book discussion enough time to obtain the book and read it. and the folks who aren't available for the chat this month will have enough time to plan for attending next month. if others are in agreement, what film should we select for this month? my suggestion would be 'die zeit die man leben nennt (this life is yours)'. i really liked the movie *and* it is downloadable....with english subtitles. (thanks, sverige888!) we could even do two movies.... if there is one most of us can understand! ;D i *really* liked 'aiki' too. that would be my second suggestion. i think those two movies would be a good double-bill! so are people cool with this? 8pm Wednesday, October 26th for movie chat
8pm Wednesday, November 23rd for book discussion of "Double Take' by Kevin Michael Connolly www.amazon.com/Double-Take-Kevin-Michael-Connolly/dp/B0057D9GAK/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1318452790&sr=1-3( the november date can be adjusted if it doesn't work for people)

Those selections sound great. Thank you Dolly! I'll put in another plug for Aiki, I think you all will really like it.
But.... Nov. 23 is the day before Thanksgiving in the US. My entire extended family is coming to my house for most of the week, so there's no way I can do a chat that night. I suspect other people in the US will have the same conflict. I could do Nov. 16 or 30.

lucretia, that is most bizarre. should be a fun read if it's in the same league as a grammar guide and an algebra texbook! maybe a number of school-aged devs happened to pick it up to read in their algebra class.... inside of their algebra textbook... to survive the algebra? that sounds like something i might have done.

Woo hoo I'm happy we are reading Double Take! I'm going to go order it now. In terms of dates, both the 16th or 30th in Nov work for me. As for which movie we watch this month I'm up for anything. I prefer movies w/o subtitles since I'm a terrible American and don't know many other languages (other than German) and struggle with reading and watching a movie at the same time. Now that I think of it though I'm not sure there are any that fall in that category

The 22nd of October should work for me as well. Australia (Sydney) is nine hours ahead of Denmark. How about you Sverige888, does it work for you as well? And how about Cake and the other women from Australia? I would love to have you in a chat .

Excitement! I'm on the other side of Australia, and we're 3 hours behind EST (Sydney), so that makes me 6 hours ahead (right?). If that's a problem I could go an hour earlier, but I sadly can't justify leaving work early.
