This may of been addressed previously, but how exactly does a chat work? Is this through skype or something? Also, is there something specifically that is discussed that is decided upon beforehand? Dev 2011 I just realized no one really answered your question. I can understand why you are a little confused since your new here. Chat is on skype but its just voice, no video. You just have to make sure the chat host or someone else who will be at the chat has your skype user ID so you can be added to the group call. Technically there are two different chats being organized now. The one discussed here in this thread a new chat time that we have never had before. There is no specific topic for it yet. There is a 2nd chat time we have had for about a year now which centers on a book or movie as well as just catching up with each other and talking about dev stuff. That 2nd chat is usually on Wednesdays at 8pm EST. There is a separate thread for each month in the devs only section. In Jan we are going to talk about the movie Aiki. Yes, this takes place through Skype. We decide who is going to host the chat(s) and then people PM this person with their Skype ID. The participants will be on Skype at the date(s) and time and the host will call them - chat begins. We don´t have any specific topic for these chats but I guess that we all want to catch up and probably also discuss some of the videos from the last chat. It is always possible to suggest a certain topic to discuss. My skype decided to stop working with the headphone  ...I'm trying to make it work again  . I will send you my skype ID by PM. Just a question... in the board calendar time seems to be 07.30 PM EST. It is 07.30 PM CET, right? Trin, I hope you get it to work. We would like to have you in chat. Also, thank you for pointing out that typo! I am sorry! IT IS CET (CENTRAL EUROPEAN TIME) (GMT +1) I tried to modify it on the calendar, but events cannot be modified so I added an update instead and corrected it in the post in the above. I fixed it for you. But yes, be extra careful when making calendar entries, as they can't be deleted once you post them.
I can't make it to this chat, as the timing is bad for me. But enjoy!

Alright, I have to ask: Do we really want to chat every single week?
I know I voted on every single Sunday on that poll, but I thought it was about availability and that we'd pick a couple of dates from there afterwards. I can get away from my family once in a while... the date wasn't really important but I can't do it every week.
Maybe everybody else intended for it to happen weekly? I'm just asking. Also I think people should know, because the level of commitment isn't going to be the same. I turn things down so I can attend book club meetings, but it's once a month. I wouldn't for something that happens all the time.

I guess the prevalence of chats will depend on interest.
Ten people specified their availability/interest and if they are still up for it then I think it should be arranged.

No problem, we will do the chat on one of the other dates.
People have uttered wishes about wanting to chat more often so I am just trying to organise it.
What is really helpful is when people state that they want to participate, host, organise ...
Organising a chat takes time and energy, therefore it is nice to get some positive responses every once in a while.
