I hope this is ok. I know someone else kept getting in trouble for mentioning things that people didn't want to read until they'd seen the update and I want to mention specifics in response to Jane. So, maybe title your post like so... Sick and Twisted: Annabelle I don't know how to describe it... I almost feel like Chris is so closed off that it's hard for Sam to find things about him that AREN'T devvy to focus on. I know he's cute and nerdy and all that, but he's so tight with personal details. I've been with guys who maintain such rigid control. I love to find little things that can make someone's day a little more fun. When you're with a guy like that, who won't give you any hints about the things he likes or the things that are the most meaningful to him (and -- this is the key -- the things he can't do for himself, or that he'll actually let you do for him)... that gets super frustrating. It just feels like Sam and Chris aren't growing into their relationship. Chris has held back so much that the only time they learn things about each other has been when it's forced out thanks to a ridiculously uncomfortable situation. But I like love stories that are about finding comfort and joy and fun and happiness with another person, even if it takes a while to get there. I think I need a happy scene to keep encouraging them here! Yeah, that scene where he almost dumps her in the floor because she sat on his lap??? He's just not giving an inch unless it's forced out of him. And that scene with Gina and her bf (I am repeating myself from the comments) would've been horrible anyway, imo, because GINA is horrible. I know Sam hates herself for not saying things but if you know that the other person won't believe you... AND there is the risk of being overheard, then I'd save the conversation for a different time.

I think Chris is being super tight-lipped about everything, but I still think Sam needs to do some quality lovin' with Chris, in whatever form, to help him feel more comfortable and more cared for. She needs to give more of herself and give him reasons to trust her -- which she hasn't exactly done with things like the Gina scene!
I would just like to see more of the love and affection between them, period. Maybe Sam should find a couple of the cracks in Chris's exterior that could help her worm her way into his heart a little more. Or maybe she should take the other tack and be vulnerable herself, giving Chris a chance to be the strong one and help her feel more comfortable.

Sure, but she'd probably have a better chance of it being received well if she spent a little more time on OTHER things! If she made her little confession at a point where Chris could step back (okay, roll back ) and think, "Hmm, she says this, but she's been so loving and affectionate and fun in ways that didn't have much to do with my disability, so maybe this devotee thing isn't as sick and twisted as it might seem..." maybe these two crazy kids might have a chance. Given the terribly awkward trajectory they've been on so far, though, who knows?

I know! I'm already afraid it's not going to go well. It's been my experience that guys who harbor insecurity over their disabilities are the very ones who can't accept devs and the fact that we're attracted to any aspect of their disability. I'm hoping better here because it's fiction. And, yeah, maybe she can use the Gina thing as a springboard for a special day just for him.

Okay I haven't read all the comments here yet but I think its CRAZY that they said "I love you" and not done much in the area of intimacy. It seems super fast but maybe that's just how their relationship is. She does need to tell him about her dev attraction and they need to do more sexually!

I agree that the "I love you" felt early. Other than Kate, I think Gina is the first other friend that Sam has introduced Chris to. And she did it so badly! Maybe I'm naive about dating, but I feel like if you're around close friends, you at least introduce your significant other to your friends before you say the big L word.
From an objective geeky-dev standpoint, I have a huge crush on Chris. And, I really want to see them get it on. (Sort of like I want to see Jules and Jeff christen every room in Jeff's house over the course of a weekend. ... Am I allowed to mention Swimming to the Surface here, or does that have to go in a separate thread?)

Nope, it doesn't have to go in a different thread. I just think it's good if we have a place to talk that where people know there will be spoilers.

I too have a huge crush on Chris. In all honesty, I prefer guys who are a little closed-off at first. If they're totally open about everything it makes me feel like there's no real difference between being their friend and being someone special to them. The problem, as I see it, in this relationship is that Sam is not really in a position where she can legitimately push him, since she's being pretty dishonest herself. It really is a similar dynamic to that in Swimming to the Surface. In both cases I get so frustrated with the ladies wanting the men to open up more and be vulnerable, when they are not willing to do the same themselves - and yet in both cases it feels totally realistic to me. I am just so worried for Sam that her procrastination on this front is going to lead to the dev thing coming out in the worst possible light (I just KNOW Rob is lurking somewhere waiting to pop up at a really inopportune time)...

Just as an FYI, Jeff and Jules are still out there! In fact, I was sketching some stuff out today, hoping to wrap things up. (Don't worry; we're barely over the halfway point, so there will be plenty left to go.)
I've got something like five sections written already, and I have the whole thing plotted out. It's just that the newer sections are in the future, and the sections that need to happen before that point are probably going to be the hardest to write.
But it's out there, and it WILL happen.

Although I do not have an in depth review of stories like many others here, I still like to add my 2 cents. Sick & Twisted has caught my attention, and I am looking forward to the rest of the story. Keep it up Annabelle! PLS and SttS are high on my wait list. I really like the story so far and I am waiting for the next chapter like many other readers. Older, finished stories I like were The Boy Next Door and The Elevator Guy.

There are lots of stories that I'd love to see updated... I'd have to go back to make a list... and may. Like, weren't you writing one, Max???
