Well this poll sure did make me think! It wasn't very easy to rank my interests "primary" vs. "secondary" but I think this was as accurate as I could make it.
I think it's interesting that you included stuttering/speech defects on here. My partner stutters, and had a pretty noticeable speech issue besides stuttering when we first met. Neither he nor I would call that a disability, but it sure did push my dev buttons, especially years ago before he really got it under control. Since joining PD I've been trying to figure out how I would explain that I'm a dev with an AB husband who still manages to set my dev senses going, lol. It's been cool to see that it made the list and I'm not the only one who voted for it!

I don't think you can vote in the polls on a phone My phone sets the benchmark for all bad phones worldwide, but I did manage to cast my vote from it. How? ? Where can you see the poll?

Hey Emma, did you make the results viewable even to people who didn't vote? We're still getting wheelers voting here... I hope there aren't any dudes voting in this poll. Since I bumped this thread, I've gotten two PM's from dudes about the poll. Its bad enough that you are reading it but PLEASE don't skew the results by voting.

It's been cool to see that it made the list and I'm not the only one who voted for it! It was easy for me to differentiate between primary and secondary. However, there could be interesting theories that come frim the "primary" vs. "secondary" differentiation. Was there autism on the list? I forgot if it is or not, I can see why it's ot on there but can see how it would make sense. Any ideas why people are attracted to cognitive vs physical disabilities or why there is attraction towards level of disability...? Sorry for the millions of questions, I need to read more studies on this!

Autism wasn't on the list, its mostly just physical disabilities because that's what this community is about. There were a few things not specifically physical disabilities that other devs mentioned that they are into. I'm sure there are devs of cognitive disabilities but I think that's a bit of a different focus.
At this point I've stopped trying to figure out why I am a dev or why I'm attracted to certain disabilities and not to others. I do find it really interesting to learn what other devs like. Its exciting to find someone who has similar interests and also cool to learn what others are into when its different than me.

I am shocked blindness comes number TWO after SCI! Not many posts here discuss that.

There was a bindness dev yahoo group that devogirl started but I'm guessing like most of the yahoo groups, it doesn't get much traffic anymore.

I would say I am definitely a blindness dev. But I was surprised that although it ranked second after SCI, we don't talk about it here as often.. tc123 lemonsEdit: come to think of it, when a blind member recently joined PD, he was bombarded with questions, his thread was pages long. I laugh when I remember how he specifically mentioned blind people DO NOT touch other people's faces as-shown-on-TV

Before I vote, SCI high severity versus low severity...
Are we talking complete v incomplete or high level v low level.
It makes a difference to how I vote in both polls.
Cheers, R.

I am shocked blindness comes number TWO after SCI! Not many posts here discuss that. I've known several devs to be interested in blindness, but it almost always seems like a secondary interest, or maybe even more of a fantasy only kind of devness? Idk. I do know there are exclusively "blindness devs" out there, but maybe they have their own version of pd? - Hey, I'm right here! Definitely not a secondary interest or fantasy only. There are quite a lot of us, and I'm glad to see more blind dudes joining PD. I think mostly the blindness devs stay away from PD because of the name, which is too bad. Come on devs, speak up!

I guess we are talking about both Robbb. I'm no expert on SCI stuff but when a bunch of us were talking about the categories we purposely made SCI more vague/all encompasing than quad vs para.
You can always write an explanation about why you voted a certain way here so we know. I think some other devs have done that already.
