Thanks for posting. It always fascinates me how people (including myself) are willing to bare our souls to people we've never met. This is truly an amazing place.

I get what you're saying about how society sees us but from a different perspective. My ex was an amazingly beautiful young woman and I always felt those judgmental stares when we went out. It's like to them, something wasn't quite right with us being together. It shouldn't be. To me, your happiness should trump the rest of those feelings. If you feel guilty, is anything really going to change that? It's been a topic here forever and I'm not going to tell anyone how they should feel but if you're happy, the rest can be worked out.

Welcome (again) mushroom! I think you and I have some things in common in terms of our devness. I too enjoy making people wonder why is she with him and therefore challenging their perceptions of what is attractive.

This in very interesting because I recently had a discussion about how I thought that devs were no different than artists, because essentially all they're are doing is seeing beauty in something that others can't, and there is nothing wrong with that. Art is ubiquitous in it's individuality. Some people will bash it, some people won't see anything at all. But as long as one person can see what u see, isn't that all that matters? And even if they can't just keep painting until someone does. Why can't that be the same with humanity? Really hope u can better yourself and your paranoia, welcome.

I liked reading your perspective. You are not a sadist IMO, I don't see it as you wanting people to suffer, but that you see a beauty and deep meaning to suffering. I see suffering as deeply engrained in the human experience. I'm very forthcoming about my emotional journey of coming to terms with my disability. I no longer suffer though, I truly live with it. It always fascinates me to see the huge variety of reactions I get to my physical issues.

I think even people with "disabilities" can understand the romantic and sexual appeal of forbidden fruit. For most of my life, I have been told that parts of my body were ugly - something to avoid. People don't think that I'm ugly as a whole, just the parts that are different. I've still managed to have an active and normal love life.

Still, there's something sensual, unique, and very romantic that occurs when women attend to my amputation. Its different, and feels vaguely naughty, because it involves parts of my body that are usually off-limits. There's also a unique sense of mutual trust that develops in those moments.

I'm not scared, but excited by "devs". They attend to parts that are otherwise ignored or avoided. The "taboo" is actually sexy.

I like this thought--there's a romanticism to it and a truth. I'd like to believe there's a corollary where wheelers/disabled folks live beautifully and without fear knowing they good and worthy.
