For about four years now I've been trying to write my story, from the perspective of both able bodied to disabled, (strolling to rolling so to speak). I have written mainly my months in skull traction, my transition of life in the chair, keeping my sense of humour in the spinal unit, but I'm interested to know what people like to read. When I go into the unit next year I'm going to see if I can get copies of my x-rays after my accident, (there a sight).. Incomplete is a understatement. I have spent 23 years now sitting and I've been pretty lucky, apart from two pressure sores, my syrinx but considering they only only gave me 17 years, life's a bonus. My family have been very supportive of me and without them I would probably be dead, although relationships are tough....but keep smiling hey. Do you like to read true life experiences, if any people on here can give me any advice, say hi...

Pete, I think there's nothing better than true life experiences and what your life is like now after all these years as a wheeler.

Hey Pete, it's a terrific idea to get your story out there. I love From Strolling to Rolling as a working title, it would also probably work as the final title depending on the direction of your story. You ask what makes a good story? In my view, the book has to be more than just the facts of what happened. To borrow a concept from fiction writing, it needs not just the details of your physical journey, but also your emotional one. All good stories involve a character that goes on a journey. And there should be an angle beside just disability. For example, you could weave in your love of sports into your journey by including what was happening with the English cricket or soccer teams at the time which reflected what you were going through personally.
Just some random ideas. Good luck with it. I'd love to read it.

i look for compelling writing. the story can be about anything - so long as the writing is engaging and creative. you have gone through some unimaginable experiences. help your readers imagine them. don't just tell what happened - let us in your head so we experience what happened. give us all the pain and doubt and anguish - the blaming and forgiving - the overcoming with all the strife , achievements , love and joy.
