OK, Dani (I don't post often here for obvious reasons), but I'm the 3rd straight guy (dev) commenting, just so ya know. Kudos! /Art Yes, Art, I wonder what are your reasons?

Dani-don't be afraid, love. As someone learning, but open-minded, any perspective helps...

I understand your nervousness well, Dani, I was there once, too. Also as an ESL speaker/writer. I made my debut into "published" writing with fanfiction, first in my native language, and then quickly also in English because that was where my online activity happened. It has been a big help to get self-assurance about my writing, and about being a writer, and to open new worlds for me. Therefore, my heartfelt congratulations that you got the courage together to step out like that and share your writing. I really hope you'll find more and more courage to show and share, and get the benefits from this shared mind-world of yours! That being said, I really enjoyed your snippet. Your characters feel real and three-dimensional, clearly have a back-story and didn't just drop from some tree *g*, and it's obvious you have gotten well into their skin and spend quality time with them. In my opinion, that's the most important part about a writer's characters, the part that makes them interesting and captures the reader. I hope you continue shaping this - and your other ideas and stories - into a story you are ready and willing to share, and embrace the joy that comes with it! (You will also have to settle for the typical pain that comes with writing, but you probably already know that. *vbg*)

Thanks Ynis, your comment meant a lot....I have a question...when you say "your debut into "published" writing with fanfiction"....what does that mean? What is "fanfiction"?

Thanks Ynis, your comment meant a lot....I have a question...when you say "your debut into "published" writing with fanfiction"....what does that mean? What is "fanfiction"? Fanfiction is a transformative art, which means fictional work based on creative worlds of authors, filmmakers and so on - the Star Trek universe, for example, or the Harry Potter Books. Fanworks and particularly fanworks are a huge subculture, with countless people of all ages and proveniences writing this kind of fiction - whithin the whole imaginable range of literary quality, from the simplest text doodle of a child to works of literacy equalling the original authors or sometimes even surpassing them. The reason for it? Wanting to tell the stories behind the one the authors told and the films showed, wanting alternative endings, timelines, characters, happenings, introducing new creations and characters into these worlds or fan-universes (fanverse), introducing disabled characters, gay, transgender, whatever you like... the stories are published in countless fanfiction archives in many languages, though the English-speaking ones are the largest. There is a lot of exchange going on, through feedback, the so-called reviews, which are the only recognition the authors are getting, and which help each author also to grow as a writer and to stretch to the own limits. Writing fanfic is an awesome means to dip one's toes in creative writing. There is a thread about disability-related fanfiction in the devs-only section, where we have collected stories and where also links to some archives are. I discovered Fanfic a couple of years ago and frist only read, then soon startedt to write myself, just little ficlets and drabbles (mini-stories with 100 words each), and it went on from there, and I'm now regularly publishing my work - I'm not a very prolific writer, but I'm doing long, multi-chaptered stories now and am currently editing my NaNoWriMo novel, which is essentially also a fanfiction. With "publishing" I mean here posting it to fanfic archives, where it is available for everybody to read, for free. There is more behind this, particularly with recent changes/possibilites like those by Amazon, but this is a very wide area and I don't want to spam your thread even further. A bit of is to be found in the fanfic thread I mentioned above.

I hope you'll also find a well of amazing new experiences! Don't hesitate to ask if you want to know more, or anything in particular. It takes a bit to find one's way around, and that also varies from fandom to fandom! *g*
