Hi everyone, I am new but a latecomer dev. Was too shy and ashamed to admit it until I came across PD. I browsed the board sections and the posts before introducing myself and I saw some interesting people and subjects. It feels good to know I am not alone and also that disable men can understand us, like us and even enjoy being a part of this community. I am glad I joined and would like to chat, make friends with devs and disable males. I am French (from Paris) but have been living in Miami, Florida for 12 years now. No problem to communicate in English but it would be great to find French speaking members. If not never mind. It is also good to know people from all around the world. Merci !

Hallo! Welcome on board, I'm also a new member here. We may chat soon or later. I know some French but my English is definitely better. Btw I think you will find someone from France as well!

Welcome, Frenchie! I've lived in Paris for three years, French even is my first foreign language, but it's been 18 years now and my French is getting pretty rusty. With latecomer dev, do you mean you didn't admit it to yourself that you were a dev until you found PD, or to somebody, no matter whom?

Welcome to PD. I am Canadian and I don't speak French. I Failed it miserably when I was in school. Probably due to the fact I'm too much of a red neck.
What do you mean you're a latecomer? Are you only having your dev feelings now? Realized them for a long time? How old are you anyway??
Enjoy the conversation.

Thanks for all your welcomes. If anyone wants to chat in French, you can send me a private message. As a new member I can't yet. In being a latecomer dev I meant I discovered I was one only very recently. I didn't know what is was until a few months ago. Honestly I was afraid to admit it. In France handicap is a taboo and an unsettling subject and I think disabled people are put aside and are not part of the community in their own rights. I guess things are changing now. On my last trip I noticed accessibility progress at least. Those are practical things among others that always drew my attention. Apart from that, all my life I felt attracted to handicapped men (paraplegia essentially) interested in their lives and also felt frustrated at some point being too shy or restrained (by an egoistic and non understanding society) to make the first move, talk, ask questions and be closer to the disabled. It was really a strange feeling that made me feel bad or weird. Instead of talking or trying to understand what triggered this fetishism (I really think it can be called so without being pejorative) I read lots of novels, books, medical revues and watched movies with disabled characters. It helped me to offset my frustration. Latecomer meaning also I am not that young anymore. I am happily married with an AB, have two grown-up children ( 27 & 23) so too old and too late to change the course of my life. It just feel good to be able to talk about it and be a member of PD where I can find understandable devs and paras. Sorry I didn't mean to be so long. Hope I am not boring!

It is nice to know a bit more about you, Frenchie. Those of us, who are a little bit older, often wish that the site had existed when we were younger. Things would (hopefully) have been easier for many of us, at least in terms of contact with like-minded people. When I found PD (more than five years ago - GULP!), I was happy that I was not the only one. That realization is a relief and I think it has been for you too? Glad you found us, dig into the old threads and read and participate
