Hey everyone, I am sorry it is me again....so I am trying to post the second Chapter to "No Strings Attached' but every time I create a new post it looks like it is a brand new story on the Blog....I would like to add it to my existing story of course but I don't know how to do that and even though I read the rules over and over I am not really getting it....I would appreciate if someone could give me a bit of feedback on this.. Thanks! Dani

The rules are not that difficult. Please read them again more carefully. stories.paradevo.net/p/rules-for-posting.htmlYou did not back-date your story, as explained in rule #6. Look at the first of the frequently asked questions, that explains why you have to back-date your entries. When you create a new post, the "set date and time" function appears in the tool bar on the right hand column. Just pick a random date in the past and keep going back from that point with each new entry.

Well, that is what I read and I didn't even see where to put a date....and I was afraid of exactly the sentence that the rules are not that difficult. I also wrote to Lee about the date thing and didn't get an answer.... I had even printed out the rules for myself so I could reference them and I tried but can't figure it out...I knew I would not get lots of assistance so I figured I write it on here and someone can help me out... Simply put, I don't get rule # 6 and you can think of me what you want now....sorry, I am not super smart on that stuff... Thanks for your explanation but I am somehow not getting the super welcoming vibe when it comes to questions on the Story blog....makes me actually feel somehow inadequate....I am feeling like "If you can't figure it out, then don't even post there".....

From the blog...
Rules for Posting
6) For multi-part stories, change the Post Options to pre-date subsequent parts. For example, if you date Part 1 on Aug 13, then date Part 2 on Aug 12, Part 3 on Aug 11, etc. Then make a new post to inform readers of the update and provide a link.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why are you making me post serial stories in this stupid and confusing way?
Since this is a blog, if updates are done chronologically, if people want to read the story later, it will be in reverse! If you make your updates in reverse chronological order, then months from now, if someone discovers your story and wants to read it, they can do it easily by simply clicking on the story name on the right sidebar.
To adjust the date when creating a new post, use the tool on the right hand column called "Set Date and Time." Pick a date in the past, and just keep going backwards for each subsequent post.

I never got an email from you about this, Dani. But what DG says is accurate. If you don't know how to change the date, I posted a link on the how to post page of a very basic tutorial on blogger.

Dani, also remember you need to make an "update post" that will appear on the main page so people know your story has been updated. It's courtesy not to post your story on the same day as someone else, and sometimes people have "regular" days if they update weekly. Like I usually update on Tuesdays or Wednesdays; I know Rose usually posts on the weekends, etc. Feel free to contact me if you need help with anything. My email is chiealeman[at]gmail.com . Lee, feel free to mark me down as a mentor. I'll do my best.

Thanks Ximena, yeah, I will try to get it down hopefully soon....I did see the rule about not posting on the same day as another author...I know my days won't be too regular because I have to try to get it done when I have time....:-)

(Dani, to be honest, this is one reason why I don't post there. I too find rule 6 very confusing. I understand the purpose but I'm really scared that I won't do it right!)

if you don't do it right, someone will let you know and help you. Or you can try it out on a private blogger blog first were it doesnt matter if you do something wrong. I hope I did it right, it was a little difficult to find your own posts because there are so many entries.

It was an apparently misguided attempt at some humor. If only one dev can post on any given day, and (it seems like) at least three or four of the days are already "taken", then out of "courtesy" I will likely never "get" a day without ruffling a feather or two. Not that I post. But if I wanted to. There are quite a few devs that have stories, but are just waiting for the right encouraging environment to do so. This blog thing seems to be a bit of the the opposite direction, IMHO. But I find that a lot in writing circles. There quickly appears a hierarchy of sorts and the rest of the writers either fall in line or just gradually opt out. I don't make the rules, but I personally do post every Tuesday (except in extenuating circumstances) and it's frustrating when I have a post ready to go and someone else posts on that day. But it's not a huge deal, I just posted this week on Wednesday instead. But the idea behind not posting the same day as someone else is so you don't "steal their thunder." Normally there is only 1-3 people posting weekly at one time, so it's never really been an issue before. Most people do NOT post weekly, or even on a regular schedule in my experience. I don't think we've ever had more than 7 people posting consistently at one time, but correct me if I'm wrong. Also, you can see drafts in the blog interface if you're logged in, so you can tell if someone has something that they're getting ready to post or not. It's really not a science, and it's not meant to exclude anyone. Really, it usually ends up just working out. I'm sure if we ever got to the point where we had more than 7 people wanting to post stories every single week on a regular basis, we'd have to work something out, but so far the system seems to work fine.

It has been a bit difficult to find a day to post my third chapter this last week because it seems someone else posted every day and I didn't want to steal "their thunder" but at the same time I wanted to post as well because I had some time this week and I didn't want to keep the people who read my story waiting any longer...I do believe there should be some lenience on the posting schedule...I think the people who want to read a certain author's story will find the story even if there are other ones posted on the same day.... Thanks for all your help Ximena!

Thanks for all your help Ximena! Yeah, this past week was extraordinarily busy, with I think 2 or 3 new stories, but it's not normally like that. There was probably a 2 month stretch recently where I was pretty much the only one posting each week. If it were to become an issue, then I'm sure the rules could be modified, but from my experience it hasn't been a problem.

If someone has already posted on the day you want, just date your post for the following day and hit publish. That will "reserve" the date for you.
