This is my symes amputation. My tendon of Achilles got tight and pulled the heel back a bit. I call it my drumstick. Attachments:

This is my symes amputation. Quick question if I may Robbie... what, if any, is the benefit to a Symes amputation as opposed to conventional amputation, say just above the ankle? They always look slightly awkward to me. R. |

I think they are more awkward. Getting a prosthetic that won't slip off, doesn't weigh a ton nor look like a 1970's Kiss boot sucks. I would say the benefit is there is still some tissue down there, and I can put weight on it (short distances).
I thought I was getting below knee, but woke up. I was so desperate at the time, I wasn't thinking clearly.

They always look slightly awkward to me. R. I had this explained to me once. With a symes, transfers with your legs are still possible. So it's a good option for people who need to pivot and don't want to be reliant on hardware to do so. |

I have some serious farmer tan going on, and it’s the end of a long day in the chair, so they’re a bit swollen. However I wanted to join in the fun. So I figured why not show part of what my momma gave me. 😜. Besides, I’m going to start practicing for the Rockettes and I’m worried my calves are going to beef up with all the dancing. All kidding aside, I’d like to become more involved here and I thought this would be a fun place to start.
