Why is it that people think that it is where you return grocery carts to? The last several weeks, I have found myself moving grocery carts to where they need to be instead of right in the middle of a handicapped parking space - UGH!!! LOL-I am such a DEV .

It drives me crazy. Im tempted to get some super sticky labels printed up saying DO NOT PARK HERE and sticking them right in the middle of car windscreens who use the disabled parking slots when they shouldnt đ

SouthernCalGal - YES...me too! Iâm constantly collecting carts from the stripped areas between the van accessible spots! It totally irritates me! I get that some people canât return them...hence the reason they have the accessible parking pass/plates. But thatâs not who I see dumping the carts there. A few weeks ago my fiancĂ© and I were heading back to our car from the grocery store and we heard shouting. I turned and saw an employee yelling across the lot to an AB lady who was trying to leave her cart in the accessible area. He was shouting, âNope! Nope! Not there! Put it in the cart return or in the store!â I was so excited to see someone being corrected that I almost ran over and gave him a high five! LOL

Im tempted to get some super sticky labels printed up saying DO NOT PARK HERE and sticking them right in the middle of car windscreens who use the disabled parking slots when they shouldnt đ I wouldn't do that because I've heard a lot of people complaining about how hard it is to get a placard replaced or get a new one or so forth. For example a divorced guy with a disabled kid said that his ex kept forgetting to send the placard with the kid for visits, and they wouldn't issue two placards for one person. And my Dad has arthritis that keeps changing in severity, and only qualifies for a temporary placard when he has a flare up, but it takes time to get the placard each time. So while the vast majority of non-placard cars in disabled stalls are people who don't need that spot, I'd be worried about making it harder for the few who actually do need it but don't have a placard to prove it.

I understand your concerns but i have to say that in the UK people just seem to use disabled parking areas as an easy slot. Ive actually sat and watched perfectly able people get in/out whilst we have been struggling to get the wheelchair out of the car in a regular slot. Some people have disabled parking permits for valid reasons, but i still feel that a wheelchair user needs it most. My partner is totally unable to leave the car unless we can get his wheelchair right next to him. Sorry for the rant but its so annoying. Not only that but it makes him feel more "disabled" which is hurtful

So, I started this thread in September of 2018 and guess what? I still get just as aggravated...here is a picture of what I found on Sunday... Apparently, 4 people thought this space was where you returned carts. Why oh why do people do this? Ugh!! P.S. Please note, I moved them out of the way after taking the picture .

Yeah, it's messed up...but I do wonder sometimes with disabled parking spaces and how they are. Lots of times only one side has extra space and lots of times it's the passenger side. I don't understand that. Like if the driver is in a chair they need the space on their side to set up their chair and stuff...

thatâs so interesting with these non-returned carts. We most of the time donât have that issue in Germany. The carts are chained together, and only if you insert a coin into the cart, it mechanically releases one cart. Of course, after youâre done shopping, you want your money back, so you naturally return the cart, and chain it back to the others. if you guys in the US had that system, it would solve at least this particular problem. But still of course it doesnât solve the snow problem and the idiots who just use the free slot because they are too lazy to walk a few more steps. I have to admit even though being a dev, I never paid too much attention to the accessible parking lots, however I think that the Germans are a good crowd and the overall majority of AB people leaves these parking lots to those who need them. So now I start thinking why I never pay too much attention to the accessible parking lots when I do my groceries. I really think most of the times when I go shopping thereâs just that empty lot. I think I would definitely notice if there was an issue like carts blocking that space.

I don't understand that. Like if the driver is in a chair they need the space on their side to set up their chair and stuff... It really doesnât matter which side itâs on because you can back into the spot if you need it on the other side. A lot of the smaller vansâ ramps are on the passenger side so even if the driver is the wheelchair user theyâd still need the extra room on the ramp side. A lot of lots alternate the side that has extra room so that there are options, which is nice. @southerncalgal, you should check out the snowy states in the winter! Most snow plows think that the disabled spots, extra space and curb cuts are where theyâre supposed to pile the snow! Once they introduced the cart corrals at most of our grocery store parking lots, the shopping cart issue hasnât been nearly as bad! That pic makes me cringe. I feel so dumb....I literally never thought about that you could back in...duh...I used to be blonde đ

DaniI keep thinking though, the majority of the typical Walmart-Americans are more lazy than the Germans. So the Americans wonât return their cart for a quarter LOL. So you should also either invent a new coin or create carts that suck up a 20 Dollar bill đ

This is not a supermarket though so it's doable. At least here in WA, lots of counties have implemented no more plastic bags at stores which I love.

I always hated these many plastic bags you get in stores. Even for stuff that doesnât need to be bagged like a single gallon of milk with its own handle... ok sorry this is getting off topic now....

There was a grocery store chain in New England that had the quarter/chain thing on the carts. They didn't have that for long though. I'm guessing people weren't using it correctly.
