Hi everyone! I'm equal parts excited and terrified to finally be joining the message board. I've actually known about it for a few years and checked it out once in a blue moon, when I wanted to feel less alone about this strange attraction I have, but have never had the courage to join. Until today... Like most of you, I've had the attraction for as long as I can remember. I only realized it was something rare and weird in my mid-teens (yes, in my childhood and early teens I actually thought this was normal and common ) and went through a bit of a rough phase when I learned about all the negativity attached to it. I tried to find anything I could about the Why and How and whatnot and I'm still really fascinated with the "scientific" side of it - like where does it come from (Is it just a random thing that occurs or is it hereditary in any way?), does it correspond with any other personality or character traits in those who have it and how rare is it really? Drives me mad, that we know so little (essentially nothing) about it, haha Apart from that weird thing we share: I'm 26 years old and I love coffee, books and the mountains And I really look forward to taking part in the conversation with you wonderful people!

Welcome to PD, glad you had the courage to sign on. I identify with your intro as many devs probably also do. I tried to find out for a long time why and how I can be this way but I eventually gave up on finding any good answers, because there really aren't any I think. I am originally from Germany btw. If you don't mind answering, which country are you from?

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Dani You're probably right that there aren't any definitive answers. I also just want to clarify, that I don't wonder about it in a negative way (anymore). I've come to the point where I can honestly say that I love myself the way I am (though I'm still terrified of other people's judgment). I'm just generally fascinated with human psychology and sexual psychology as a part of that. I think the more you read about sexuality, the more you realize how weird people are in general - which actually made me feel a little less weird I would just love to know more about it out of curiosity, not because I don't accept myself. And it's not like it occupies my mind all the time, thankfully. As for the country... I'm still a little paranoid, because this is a public site and since I'm from a small country, I feel like the world will instantly know who I am, if I say the country (which is obviously ridiculous, but oh well). I'd be more than happy to tell you in a private message, though!

No problem Amee Maybe once you feel more comfortable. And yes, when it comes to the human mind in terms of psychology and sexuality, there is definitely a whole lot to discover. I'm also interested in the way humans are wired really and why people are the way they are. Believe me I have my own weirdness going on in those things. Curiosity is definitely a good thing, questioning things and wanting to know more is never bad so I'm with you on that for sure. Sometimes I feel I should be more ignorant of my surroundings because the more I think about things the harder life is sometimes but then at the same time I wouldn't want to be ignorant. I want to know things and I'm interested in the world. It's even fascinating to me how some people really know nothing and want to know nothing outside their own little world.

I actually think this is one of the (few) good things about being a dev - we get first-hand insight on how strangely people can be wired That's an interesting philosophical question you bring up - if life's easier when you're ignorant. Thinking back, I would agree that it was easier in a way for me when I was ignorant about having "deviant" attractions. But I think, in general, living in your own little world only works as long as you're lucky enough not to run into any sorts of problems that force you from that little world. You're right, it can be exhausting trying to understand humanity and the world, just because both are so far beyond our comprehension. But then again, that's probably exactly why it's so fascinating.

I'm always baffled as to how many people I know who just advertise the name of our town for all to see. *Paranoid high 5 ftw* sooo we know that you like mountains, but do you climb them?

Haha, Yay for the paranoid high 5!! I do climb mountains, though nothing too crazy. Mainly just hiking with occasional passages of fixed rope climbing. Though I've just recently had something I like to refer to as a near-death experience on a snowy mountainside. It really wasn't that spectacular and nothing happened, but I was praying hard and I don't usually do that.

Greetings bojangler ! Nothing like a cup of good coffee with lots of milk on a Saturday morning... *sigh* Oh yes, and also on Mondays. And Tuesdays. And sometimes in the afternoon. And, well ok I think maybe I have an addiction.

Yes, I think it's bordering on an addiction for me as well.

Welcome Amee. It is amazing how we had this feeling from when we were young and dont know where it came from. I think I was born a dev, who knows the reason. But I am proud to be one.

I was all paranoid myself in the beginning (which was only three weeks ago). But thanks to the great people here I have become much more comfortable now, even tomthe extent to show my pictures here. As I was told: just in case someone you know from your everyday life discovers you here, everybody here is here for a certain reason. It’s very unlikely a person finds this place just by coincidence. Relax. But no need to push yourself, if you don’t want to mention the small European country. I am from Germany by the way. Enjoy!
