Welcome bluefox, I don't know how I missed your introduction. I hope you enjoy it on PD. You are so...lucky to have found this site at your age. I wish I would have had a resource like this so, so many years ago.

I'm from Germany, and from what I've read many of at least the devos on here are, too! Wondering if devness is more common in some cultures and if so, why. Hi, welcome from another German dev! (I think we should plan a paradevo-meeting in 2020 or 2021 in Germany, we really should!)
The idea of devness being more common in some cultures is an interesting one, and I think it has a lot to do with how open-minded and how inclusive a society is. Imagine to allow yourself to think about being a dev when you're living in Russia or in an Islamic state, where it is not even allowed to admit to being gay! With that I don't try to state that Germans are very open-minded or inclusive *cough*.

I'm from Germany as well. If you are from somewhere in the Southwest region, you're in good company. I think until today I'm still the only one from the Eastern part. No, you're not. ;-) I'm from Sachsen-Anhalt.

Heheh is someone counting the German devos? 😂 Someone should.
I'd say German societal norms are near radically inclusive to be honest, not so sure about what goes on in people's heads though.
But on another note, I'm really starting to notice devness in people around me, I already referred someone to this forum, another good friend might have her tendencies and I just began to really suspect a male real life friend to be quite the devo. o.o Three people might not be much for anything else, but for devness I think it's quite a handful.
The meeting idea sure is an exciting one and I get a chuckle thinking of the excuses some on here who have places to be might come up with xD I'd suggest making it in the same city at the same time an non devness related event that could appear of interest for most people would take place, maybe a book fair or something. Then people who aren't out yet have a good excuse.

I suggest meeting in 2021 in Leipzig at the book fair. Leipzig is said to be nice, the book fair is large and spring is a nice season. And I am for Saturday or Sunday. :-D

I've also noticed that a majority of devs seem to be German however people in the Forum said it's most likely a coincidence.

First of all, welcome from yet another German dev I absolutely love the idea of a meet-up! I'd also prefer 2020 - the earlier, the better. Wouldn't want to wait until 2021 to meet you guys

I'd definitely say Saturday, but if it's going to be late 2020 I can't say whether I'll have time - I probably wouldn't. I'm also a bad organiser... :/ Is anyone good at such things? Aside from that I don't think an electronics fair makes a good excuse - I can imagine most just as uninterested in random electronics as I am - a book fair definitely covers more kinds of people - even if not, it's easier and cheaper to fake a book phase than an electronics phase Also, I think most of us are in southern or western germany, so Berlin sounds like a bad idea. Would be incredibly expensive to get there from middle Germany (here), too. Edited p.s.: I'm counting 9 German devos and one from Austria already in this thread... :v

Leipzig book fair at the weekends is known to be...cuddly. And Berlin is not too complicated to reach from the middle.
Maybe that would be an interesting place and time and occasion to meet? ;-) And if anybody asks: The young devs are interested simply because it has cool electronics - or because grandma and grandpa will maybe need an accessible bathroom... one day and one wants to be widely informed. The rest of us will go to be informed if pa or ma soon will be in need of reha-technics. *whistles*
Berlin or Leipzig would definitely be better to reach for me, but then again... we are talking about traveling inside Germany (for the Germans, at least). We are not talking about New York or San Francisco, Spokane or Laredo. ;-)
