one of the main reasons i wont ever tell anyone (fam friends etc) that im a so called 'devotee' is this EXACT reason, i dont want to be roped into the definition of DPW... the lines bewteen D+PW are too fine to explain to a non-devotee or an AB, so people would naturally class us all as being one thing, to which i dont want to be a part of.
i did a little superficial reading, and it didnt take long to see how medicine has classified P+W into psychiatric disorders OR Stemming from a psychiartic disorder, i wasnt suprised, i guess it doesnt take science to figure that out.
im all for freedom of speech and what not, but i dont want to stand on the side lines and pretend im OK with this..
at the risk of sounding like an ever 'bitter' guest id say maybe P+W need to get some psychotherapy before it gets out of hand and they eventually do something permanent to disable themselves.
arent there bigger better forums where P+W can go?

Yes, this is NOT a pretender or wannabe forum. It's a DEVOTEE forum.
I feel for you. And it was initially somewhat interesting to hear a little bit about your issues. But in the end, your issues are not at all what we are about here. Nor what we WANT to be about here. Surely there is a more appropriate place to discuss these things in greater depth.

This is also not a support forum for individuals with SCIs, but many topics end up being posted asking for just that kind of help. We discuss many things here that are not directly related to devoteeism. As I've said before, it's a PUBLIC FORUM. If you don't like it, move along to another thread.

I don't think this one thread is invading the entire board. If it's not your bag, just stop clicking the link. It's really not that hard. I know members here who have boyfriends/husbands/wives, etc. and don't even come into the Personals area. Why? 'Cause it's not their thing.

Reading this thread has had me laughing, only coz it's gotten crazier and crazier, mainly through Obscure's over-the top anger and venom, which seems to have no limit. i'm not ragging on you, Obscure, just kinda shocked coz it's unusual, even for angry-quads, and i've seen quite a few. In the beginning, i was interested in getting my mind around this one, and i thought Claire was pretty reasonable, but it's getting damn scarey here now. Maybe Obscure is right, in a strange way, coz i'd much rather be a quad c5c6 than be a person with her self-hate, anger and need to be paralyzed. But i'm not sure all these issues will be resolved if she ends up in a chair coz like somebody else said 'if you think you have problems now, just wait.' Tri-man had a good point, too!! Usually, you gain weight post-injury, especially if you had a weight prob before. I've been lucky in that area, but i think it's much more important in life to be settled with WHO you are, and that really has nothing to do with what body you were born with, or the one you injure.

Tony, I have to wonder just what you're basing these ludicris observations about my behavior on. Up until the point where I was personally attacked by someone who refused to handle the situation in a mature and thoughtful way, I acted with absolutely no "anger" or "venom" whatsoever. I have been nothing but patient, cordial, and apologetic throughout this entire thread -- UNTIL I WAS OUTRIGHT ATTACKED. And yeah, you better believe that I'm going to fight back.
Just where you get off assuming I hate myself I'll never know, and I certainly can't understand where you're getting this idea of "over-the-top anger and venom." I wonder if you've really read anything that's gone on here.

Give me a break, you are no little miss innocent. I would call it karma except that the harsh comments on this thread actually were shared by other wheelers and arise from real gripes and feelings, while your conduct you appropriately self-described as nothing more than "evil." Why do you think there are comments on this thread that commend you for being calm with *some* of your comments? Such praise occurs only when prior history suggests it is an anomaly. You were not kidding with your comment about telling yourself little lies to make the world seem ok.

You're really beginning to bore me. There you go again: As far as I'm concerned, we each tell ourselves lies every day as a way of making the world around us more bearable. You are not the type to avoid answering unless you have no good response.

I'm not quite sure what it is that you want me to answer? Perhaps if you could tell me just what kind of a response it is you're looking for from me I could more adequately provide it to you?

I think I'm beginning to understand the reason why wheelers may have anger and contempt for pretenderrs and wannabes; tho I personally don't have that view.
It may be sort of how a combat veteran might feel when he saw guys who've never been on a military base playing paintball wargames. He's probably gonna think: "assholes".
Or worse, someone who claims to have been in combat but wasn't; remember that jerky English prof a few years ago who was outed for doing that? "Asshole".
Or it could be like a rich American hippie kid who flies down to Jamaica and lives with the Rastas...until he gets tired of it. Again, on some level, you think: "Asshole".
It's the perception that someone is grooving on this rough, primal, harrowing experience that you have had thrust upon you. It's the diffrerence between fasting and starving.
But I also look at it from the pretender/wannabes side too. This is something they NEED. And they DON'T need our permission, either.

This is something they NEED. I don't see how you can come to that conclusion, since it is only a Big Mac that is blocking the path to the paradise of paralysis. Your observations about the source of wheeler reaction are interesting. By the way, a google search of biid ties it to amputation only, not wannabes/pretenders.
