There we go again... I don't have Netflix. It sounds interesting though. And I guess at some point of time I'll weaken and get an account, too. However, not verified if we could watch it in Germany, too, I think.

Definitely looks worth watching. If only to remind us that not so long ago things were very different for disabled people, and attitudes were stuck in the dark ages. Things aren’t perfect now, but we’ve come a hell of a long way in the right direction.

Reminders can be set already, which means that it will definitely be available in foreseeable time.

I know my son did that - often until I took control of his screen time and made it so he cannot use the Netflix app.

I just got done watching Crip Camp!
It's funny, sad and really shows how appalling things used to be.
Has anyone else watched it yet?

From an old devy hippie, yes falcor. This was the start from where the ADA came from and Centers for Independent Living. I’ll have to watch and put flowers in my hair 🌺🌺🌺

I found it really interesting from a personal perspective how things used to be before the disability movement started and how the cast touched on feeling like an "other" and excluded in society. It's sad to think how easily groups of people can so easily dismiss someone's humanity just because they are different and assumes they aren't deserving of the same things all people crave like acceptance, love, sex and fitting inside a restroom stall.
On a side note, I know that LSD played a big part in the hippie/civil rights movement and I wonder how much that played into the idea of starting a camp for the disabled.

Great watch! Wasn't born into this community BUT definitely a part of it now. Have been a little hesitant to fight OUT LOUD and only for this community at the beginning.. felt like an imposter since wasn't born with it and since lived most of my life a different way.. BUT done with that feeling. THIS QUOTE really sums up the fight and how I have felt about it and how I continue to feel about it.
O’Toole - “Disabled people know that every day of our lives. The world doesn’t want us around and wants us dead. We live with that reality so there’s always gonna be an ‘am I gonna survive? Am I gonna push back? Am I gonna fight to be here?’ So if you wanna call that anger, I call it drive. You have to be willing to thrive or you’re not gonna make it.”

A few things some of the cast mentioned that I wanted more of but would have been out of scope of the documentary were topics of identity, sexuality and gender norms in society and how disability does and doesn't fit into these subjects.
