Hey everybody, I'm new around here. I only figured out about devotees (and subsequently this website) a couple of weeks ago, and needless to say, I'm really interested to learn more about you all. But enough about how I got here, allow me to introduce myself… My name is Jake, I'm 25 and live in the metro Atlanta area. I have a bachelors degree in communications, and I'm just working that piece of paper to its absolute fullest potential as a freelance writer. When i'm not writing ad copy for shitty vacuum cleaners, I'm the front man for a budding music project called "The Respirators". We are hoping to release an EP at some point this year, with the only obstacles to that goal being that our guitarist is kind of lazy, our drummer is super super busy, and our bassist wants to be a firefighter. A lot to overcome there. If I had to boil down my personality to its absolute digestible essence, I'd say it like this: imagine you put a southern gentleman and a punk into a human personality blender and sprinkled in a generous helping of optimism and dark humor. I would be the gelatinous concoction that poured out, believing chivalry isn't dead in one breath and challenging outdated normative gender roles in the next breath. I love to laugh, and try not to take myself too seriously. But maybe you don't care about all of that. Maybe you just want to know about the juicy stuff: my disability. I don't feel like it's anything too out of the ordinary here, but I live with SMA type II. I was diagnosed at 18 months, and while I don't have any paralysis, at this stage in my life, my muscles are severely weak. I use an electric wheelchair to get around, and I employ a team of personal care attendants to help me live independently. I was raised in an environment where allowing my disability to prevent me from doing things was never an option, and so adaptation and learning how to make things work are cornerstones to my approach on life. Perhaps all of this seems cliché, I don't know. I think that's probably enough droning on about myself, and I sincerely hope that this didn't come across as pretentious. The point is, I'm excited to be here and to meet some of y'all. Please don't hesitate to reach out, and I hope to hear from you soon! Jake PS. Hi and welcome! That's a great intro, not pretentious at all! (I know, it can be a bit weird to write about yourself.) So, what kind of music do "The Respirators" make, when they're not busy, lazy or fighting fires? And how did you find out about devs? I hope you'll enjoy this community and find whatever it is you're looking for!

Hi and welcome, great intro! No, not pretentious. Music is always good and yes, what Amee says, what kind of music does your band make? We are a colorful bunch, hope to see you around and mingle here. Enjoy!

I hope you'll enjoy this community and find whatever it is you're looking for! Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm so bad at classifications and genres when it comes to music nowadays, so maybe a better idea would be to highlight some of our major influences. Bands like Pup, The Menzingers, and Against Me! really inform our style and direction for the music we're trying to make; loud and energetic punk music that's more about the feeling and emotion of the sound then technical skill. If it ever catches on, I'll want to coin it, “cripple-core pop punk". We'll see how our fledgling music careers will turn out. lol My discovery of devs is sort of a meandering tale. Essentially, I found myself on an NSFW subreddit that was discussing a website for kinks and people who have them. Now, normally that wouldn't be very interesting to me (I'm a pretty vanilla straight guy when it comes to romance and intimacy), but a commenter mentioned that it was a website for people with varied interests, including "people who were into disability". So I checked it out, because I don't think I had ever felt like I could be ‘alluring’to someone. And a little bit of time lurking there led me to here. So, I guess I'm just here to figure out what this community can be for me. At the very least, I can learn about this stuff and maybe meet some awesome people. At the most, maybe I meet someone super special. I suppose only time will tell.

Hi and welcome from a German music freak! Music is anyway more a matter of feeling, in my opinion. I mean, the fucking Ramones were never really technically versed and they played cool stuff. I like your way of thinking, which led you to this site in the end. Kind of reminds me of my own.... I hope you have fun and find what you are looking for.

Hi! I’m in atl as well. New to the site and found out about it in a similar fashion except I realized I wasn’t the only person with this interest
