Ok ok. It is fun to make fun of gun nuts. How they day dream this fantasy of stopping a mad man (or mad woman) with their gun, which rarely happens. But it was in my lifetime when LA erupted in violence, and there was no police, no emergency services of any kind for several hours, right at the time when they were needed most. Would you rather have a gun during a time like that or not? I think its totally, 100% reasonable and rational to want a firearm for times like that. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst

OK Jack Reacher.lol Do you think riots will be better or worse if everyone has a gun?
Maybe you need some Kinderguardians?
My question was not whether guns are good or bad, the fact is that they are out there. What happens when Jim Bob's Mom is not treated because the system is overwhelmed, and he has an AR15 in his truck??

Actually, now that I think about it wonk, Oz isn't too different. You're a relatively young country, made up of huge swaths of wilderness inhabited by people who need to be largely self-reliant, with a highly populated coastal cities. I know gun culture is really different down there now, but that wasn't always the case, right? I remember you guys had some sweeping regulations enacted in the not-too-distant past. My mom, who fancied herself quite the independent thinker, used to talk about the government in Oz coming for everyone's guns like it was a humanitarian catastrophe on par with Stalin's regime. She talked about the real-life Crocodile Dundee dying as a martyr in a shoot-out with police when they came to take his guns. Australia is 90% city slickers who have absolutely no need for a gun. I live in a regional area, and used to have a farm. I also had a single shot 410 for snakes, even though snakes are protected. In 96 there was a massacre, and the government of the day banned semi automatic weapons, there was a gun buy back and most of the semi autos were removed from circulation. The overwhelming majority of people supported the ban. There were no shoot outs with the police, and no Waco style incidents. Of course not everyone was happy, and the NRA got involved from the USA. Which annoyed most people in the country and was counterproductive to its cause. You can still hold a shooters license if you have a valid reason (self protection is not a valid reason) Anyway if you need a semi auto to take down a target then you probably shouldn't be holding a gun

I didnt make the law or have any particular opinion on them. But as you say theyre out there. The people rushing to the gun store are utilizing every advantage afforded to them. Seems like a good idea to me.

In the locked thread, there were claims that Italy has got it catastrophically wrong. Is the US making exactly the same mistakes, even with the benefit of seeing what has happened in Europe? PS Corey The answer to the gun problem, is always.. more guns

Within a few weeks the USA will have half a million infected and 2000 dying a day The problem is twofold: 1. Western governments do not have the political will to do what is necessary 2. Westerners are typically selfish assholes. Here in Australia, the first day that people were sent home from work, 25,000 people were on Bondi Beach. People coming off infected cruise ships were told to self isolate for 14 days, but many were still out in the community. As a result, the government made it a mandatory 14 days in hotels. However yesterday 33 medicos coming back from South America and told by police which motel to go to, instead got on domestic flights all around Australia. These people should goddamn well have known better. www.smh.com.au/national/nsw/they-haven-t-listened-medical-professionals-skipped-quarantine-and-flew-interstate-20200328-p54esp.htmlPeople on another infected ship which couldn't find a port to dock in, were flown into Sydney and picked up by the army in buses and taken to a 5 star hotel and quarantined. They are all having a whinge about how hard they have it

Not sure if it's been reported here already, but Sweden is keeping everything open but isolating seniors (and other high risk, I presume). It will be interesting to see how that works out.

I have been watching Sweden for the last few days, it has slightly fewer cases than Australia at the moment. Australia has just strengthened its social distancing. This may take a week or two to show a result. Additionally Australia has 25 million to 10 million in Sweden. I have my theoris on what will happen there. The other interesting place I have been watching is Turkey for the last week or so, the cases there have taken off in the last 3 or 4 days, with basically the highest slope in the world

In the locked thread, there were claims that Italy has got it catastrophically wrong. Is the US making exactly the same mistakes, even with the benefit of seeing what has happened in Europe? It seems so, the US at this rate is on average responding catastrophically wrong. Anyway, the tips I would talk about here is how to be the best advocate for yourself. I found the suggestions by Darthoso pretty helpful, and I'm looking for more practical advice like that. With my PAs I've been careful to ask them what they've been doing to stay safe, and always staying in contact about that. If you're respectful about it, I have found it easy to make sure were all doing the best thing since it is extra important to prevent me from getting sick.

Are people taking any supplements? I am on daily Echinacea for immunity strength, Vitamin D for respiratory health, and Vitamin C for general health. Vitamin C is now circulating the internet as something to help with CV19, but it has long been thought to have health benefits at higher dosages.
