I have the same disease you do (but as I'm sure you know, severities highly differ).I find myself quite surprised at how antisocial most people with (basically Any form) of muscular dystrophy are. Not saying everyone is, just on the whole most are not that great at social interactions. You, and others in this thread are obviously incredibly smart, but the isolation we incur at such a young age really does stunt our social growth. Fortunately I was lucky enough to have parents that didn't let me be disabled, they told me to go out there with my friends and figure stuff out. Now I am a college student (after making about 10 years of stupid decisions) and I'm studying sociology and psychology. I guess my point of this is kind of to echo what brinzerdecalli said-Being independent with this disease requires a lot of tactical risks. I would just suggest trying to find caregivers that are the same age as you. That is an incredible icebreaker, and they can help you get more comfortable with asking for help from others (look at it as it is their job), and you can get better at interacting with others that are not disabled (and not family).
